Hey guys, I read a thread about potentiating xanax, and someone had corrected that person and said that it would only prolong the effects by inhibiting some sort of enzyme that I can't remember and am not fammilar with. My question is, is there anything else besides grapefruit that can inhibit this enzyme and prolong/potentiate (whatever lol) the effects of xanax?[:
Or if you guys know any other methods, or OTCs to take to help with xanax potentiation or tolerance or anything like that, I would appreciate you sharing. thanks guys!

Diphenhydramine or any other anti histamine that causes sedation would add to the, well, sedation of your xanax I'm sure.

Don't really know of anything that would potentiate it besides alcohol, which is not a good idea as it's a dangerous combo. Well actually there's also Cimetidine/tagamet. Which I believe is OTC. Not positive on that, but I read it potentiates benzos. Muscle relaxants will also add potentiate in a sedative/relaxing sort of way.

Grapefruit juice really does potentiate benzos though for future reference. Never tried it, but it does exactly what you read involving inhibiting the same enzymes.

You need CYP3A4 inhibitors for alprazolam (xanax). Ranitidine, cimetidine, and omeprazole are a few.

Here is a full list of inhibitors for this enzyme.

Ranitidine is a very weak CYP450 3a4 inhibitor and won't produce appreciable potentiation.

What hatrix was describing was synergy (increasing the effects) rather than increasing/prolonging the amount of alprazolam itself. This requires enzyme inhibition primarily.
