Progressive rock (often called 'prog rock") is a subgenre of rock music defined by long, complex compositions, experimental structures, and influences from classical jazz, folk, and electronic music. It emerged in the late 1960s in the United Kingdom and is known for ambitious arrangements, poetic or conceptual lyrics, and high levels of instrumental skill.
