Product Proliferation

Hrmz, I also love to try new things just because, and the Milo cereal is nothing special at all. Was actualyl a let down IMO. I am yet to try the new Milo bar though, looks yummy!
I lurve the Crunchie balls, and those balls of chocolate stuff.
Diet vanilla Coke = Yumm!
But it does make it really hard to choose one thing when you have SUCH a wide range. All the more interesting though. And big ups to variety!

^ Damn Kelle, I wish I had that discipline! I spend at least $150 a week in the supermarket.

I spent about $250 every time I shop, but I only shop every 3 to 4 weeks... and I also have to buy a truckload of wet dog food, dry dog food, bird seed, lettuce/vegies for the birds, etc included in that.... so I guess my food bill isn't too bad :)

Well i really gotta say that the rush of new junk food is really up my alley, i love anything vanilla and im a white chocolate junkie =D so it really seems to be my year, vanilla coke and white chocolate galore m&m's maltesers twix etc etc..

If any of you like vanilla coke, try drinking some shaking the bottle a little(to let some gas out)and sticking it the freezer till its almost completly frozen and take it out and shake it up, instant frozen vanilla coke yum :)

ok, first of all, i have to say that i don't have a problem with it... it just seemed strange to me that ALL of these comapnies simulatneously decided to asult the market with their new products...

Up all night: You're entirely correct - as i do not watch TV, and don't listen to the radio very often, i completely missed just about all of the advertising you specify.

I have to admit that the new vanilla coke got me drinking coke again, after not drinking it for 3 years... and i am a fan of the sweet potato kettle chips... but that aside, it's just abit overwhelming... when i do the shopping for myself, i tend to spend my money on fresh wares - sure,i have to go more often, but i find that i feel better for it... Just a personal prefference. ;)

These are divine!

I don't pay much attention to the different flavours unless one takes my fancy and i decide to try it.

Not so sure about that because a lot of people I know who have never touched pot or any other illegal drugs state "they get the munchies" etc.

raspberrywatergirl, the new milo bars are great! :) I love them and one of the bakers at work is addicted to them hehe. Yet another thing that turned up in the confectionary that I couldnt not get. :)

stace.

if someone has mentioned this before, i apologise ;)

for a semi-serious answer.. the reasons why companies do it is to make their prescence felt. if you look at an example of a cereal aisle, its full of like, 3 different company's products (different types etc though). if they stop releasing new products, their space decreases as fads change.. this gives the option for one of the other companies to take up that space. so, they keep on pumping out new things until they fail, and then pump out more to replace it.. at least i think it goes something like that :P i remember studying it, but can't remember what i was studying! (if that makes sense).

I know this might be a bit off topic, but what about all the foods in the last year that have been targeted at drug users......

24/7 mints and gum.......obvious similarity in size shape and appearance of ecstacy tablets. Also the ads and slogans were of a similar nature

X-Cite mints...... there were some funny slogans on the packet that I can't really remember.

G force...... energy and vitamin supplement drink with a huge "G" on the front of the bottle

biscuits I had once on a plane had "let's do bikkies" written repeatedly around the the packet in concentric circles. (yes it was spelled "bikkies" and yes it said "do")

Maybe it's just my drug obsessed mind that sees these things. They seem too damn obvious though. I'm imagining the marketing brainstorming and decision making sessions surrounding these products; "well yes, we'll make the mints look like an ecstacy tablet"......."Great idea James, we'll sell heaps to all the drugged out kiddies at clubs and raves". Would they really discuss it openly? I wonder.........

^^ perhaps yeah :D

As for vanilla coke, am i the only one that realises that it tastes exactly, and i mean EXACTLY the same as No Name Low Joule Cola????!?!? You try it.....hell you could get 4.5L of the stuff for the same price a 600ml van. coke costs.....

hazelnut snickers - tastes good, but it just aint snickers....btw, where the hell did they come up with that name?!

milo bars - they aren't new are they? love em...

And yes, I have noticed the sudden surge in new products.....it is all a matter of convenience: products in a form that is appropraite for when u want to consume them. Cherry Ripe for example...the original bar for on the go, the bag for the people who like little bites (i think it is aimed at the female market actually....maybe that the small bites seem like you aren't gorging yourself like you would be if you had....) the full block of it....for parties maybe....or movie nights....

i dunno really but i agree with the viewpoint that it is simply the company keeping their old products new, and keeping their shelf space and their brand in the public eye.

Possibly might taste the same, but I'll bet any money that the actual Vanilla Coke isn't very "low joule"... ;)

You've intrigued me though. I'm gunna have to go out and get some of this no name stuff and take the "pepsi challange" (for want of a better term seeing as though we're not using pepsi in the test ;))...

Hmm, I remain sceptical. Today I purchased a couple of attractive looking packs from the "Gourmet Kettle Chips" range recently released. The first was "Sea Salt," which interpreted out of Adspeak seems to be synonymous with "Plain" and another in "Smoked Hickory" which was disturbingly similar to my understanding of what "Barbeque" tasted like.

While now they call it Garlic Bruscetta and Cirque de Soleil, don't be fooled folks... Its still just fucking Bread and Circuses ;)

^^^hahaha: bread and circuses. How to keep the mases under control. Give junk food lots of names.

Try the Red Rock Deli range. Just finished a pack of lime and black peper flavoured ones. They're better than the Kettels.

Cuddles :)

The nemo muffins are yummy, infact they are almost addictive, be careful.

All of these new products isn't just something that's been flooding the market recently, infact it's been happening for years. Maybe some of us just haven't noticed until recently.

Most of these products as far as I'm concerned are just utter crap, most of the time I won't waste my money on such gimmacky stuff.

Well, the recent huge increase of soft drink doesn't really concern me, becasuse I didn't really like them in the first place. Coke, Pepsi, Vanilla Coke, Cherry Coke whatever all still tastes the same to me.

Hmm. I haven't been down to the supermarket for a while. I guess I'll have to have a look at all this new fad-food.

Noooo! Don't let the secret out!! :D ;)

Those chips are awesome..... surpasses your average chip by miles, even Kettle and Pringles. Well worth a little extra money. My fave is the Sweet Chilli & Sour Cream flavour.
