Stimulants problem with ritalin extraction

i have the 10mg i crushed 10 and used 71 alcohol thats all i had i chillded the acohol, filtered it thru two filters put it on a pyrex dish for 24 hours, then hot blowdried it for about 30 minutes. after blowdrying for 30+ minutes i tried scraping it with a sharp knife and it kinda dulled it but the green powder after it cooled solified into a gel or something. i dont think thats the part i want , i did see some of the harder crystals to get to that were clear but they werent even worth shit for 10 pills i didnt get jack.

i never found how many per ml of alcohol to use, so i used about 30ml probably not enough. trying to get binders out of way, harm reduction. first miserable try. any tips on what i may have messed up are appreciated. they were the HCI generic methylphenidate. its like a giant booger coating the pyrex dish kindof.
 
71% isopropanol will pull lots of binders, dyes and shit. The other 29% is probably water. The end result is that the blue mucky gel that you ended up with has your methylphenidate in it.

Try again with 99% isopropanol. You can also bake epsom salts in an oven at 350f for an hour or two, let it cool, and add some to some 99% isopropanol and filter it off again to make 100% water-free isopropanol.
 
Question: May I ask why you were using isopropyl alcohol to dissolve methylphenidate when it's readily water soluble in the HCl salt form. Is there some sort of time release mechanism you're trying to defeat?

I know it's not uncommon for people new to pharmaceuticals and chemistry and think they need to use alcohol or petroleum based products to extract because they have previously had experience doing the same thing to cannabis, which does require non-polar solvents.

I'm just curious, take no offense.
