Hello all, im new to the forum. I came across this: http://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/article/20100615/OPINION03/6150309/Physicians-not-parole-officers-should-determine-what-s-best-for-patients yesterday and was so astonished that i wanted to discuss it. I for one cannot believe that this goes on!
For those of you who do not wish to read that whole story, the jist of it is that people in that city who go on probation are being forced to detox from there suboxone. The article doesnt mention methadone but i guarantee if there forcing suboxone which offers absolutely no buzz whatsoever, then they are definately gonna be forcing methadone detox.
Aside from this being ILLEGAL AS FUCK, it also goes against plain common sense. These people are going to be forced to detox from there med and inevitably end up back on an illegal drug, and then end up in jail because of probation violation. This shows you that all they care about is controlling people regardless of the outcome for the person.
An addiction is a brain disease. A person who is an addict and actively seeking treatment for it is protected under the americans with disabilities act. IT IS ILLEGAL for a probation officer to force you to detox from a medication.
I cannot believe that no one has put a stop to this yet! I know for damn sure that i would tell a PO to get fucked on that one. They have no right to do so.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
And remember, the question is not do you agree with methadone or suboxone (hell im not even really a big supporter of methadone), its what is legal and what isnt. (and whats common sense aside from that)
