Pro marihuana commercial pulled at NASCAR event in the US, the commercial was to be used to promote the drug as an alternative to beer.

The commercial was to be screened at the Brickyard 400 race in Indianapolis. But after only a few plays the ad was pulled so as not to offend the family atmosphere.

The commercial was commissioned by the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) a pro-marijuana legalisation advocacy group which describes marijuana as a safer alternative to beer. Claiming that with marijuana there are "no calories, no hangovers" and no link to “violence or reckless behaviour”.

A spokesperson for Grazie Media, CEO Vanessa Wojtala who pulled the ad said ”We decided to pull ultimately because it's not obviously a great fit for the NASCAR audience, for the family kind of oriented audience, that's why we decided to pull the ad,"

Mason Tvert from MPP accused Grazie Media of hypocrisy saying "We find it odd that this company is willing to run ads at an alcohol-fueled event, yet unwilling to run an ad that simply highlights the ways in which marijuana is less harmful than alcohol… This is the exact type of hypocrisy that motivated us to run this ad. We wanted to make people think about the absurdity of laws that allow adults to use alcohol but punish them for making the safer choice to use marijuana instead, if that is what they prefer."

Police at the event reported making 23 arrests, six for public intoxication.
