Singer Prince dies at 57

Prince Rogers Nelson, the artist known as Prince, who pioneered "the Minneapolis sound" and took on the music industry in his fight for creative freedom, has died, according to a family member reached by CNN. He was 57. The family member asked not to be identified.

Police are investigating a death at the estate of superstar Prince in Carver County, Minnesota, according to Carver County Sheriff spokesman Jason Kamerud.
Authorities told CNN that the investigation is happening at Prince's Paisley Park studios.

"We are not releasing any information regarding the identity of the person who died until next of kin is notified," Kamerud said.

Best live performer hands down for me. The man would put on a three hour set then almost always back it up with another couple of hours performing at an after party no matter what city he was playing.

Prolific doesn't do his back catalogue justice. I only hope his family release a lot of his unreleased recordings at once rather than dribs. and drabs

I don't believe in they come in threes shit, but I hope it's true this year.

Bowie, Merle and Prince in one year. Three of my heroes.

I'm just gonna put this here. Prince starts shredding around 3:30, but the whole thing is just awesome.

RIP Purple One! A true legend. TMZ is reporting that he had a possible overdose the other night. I never knew Prince as a drug user and this is just a rumor at this point but does anyone have any thoughts/opinions about that report?

He discharged himself from hospital after an OD, then went home and died.
Sounds awfully - tragically - drug related to me.

a poem for prince:

'tonight i will lie in a field of violets!
and if the violets stain my clothes,
well, then, the violets stain my clothes.'
