i was a fan back in the day. the hurting is a great album.

i saw them live a couple of times in 1983/4 - edinburgh playhouse and glasgow apollo (sadly no longer standing).

^ Truly cool shit man. Shame about the Edinburgh playhouse; least ya made it there before they tore it down though! They tore down Tiger stadium and replaced it with Comerica --- Joe louis arena went down. Perhaps not a to scale comparison idk but I know the feeling of landmarks going away.

apologies. the playhouse is still there - the glasgow apollo was torn down in 1987.

man, it's fun to get nostalgic about some of the acts i've seen at the edinburgh playhouse: omd; depeche mode; the cult; meatloaf; tears for fears; chuck berry; bb king...

The cover is great in Donnie Darko, the mood fits. But you are absolutely correct-- the original is far superior on its own. Not even close tbh.
It's funny because they use the original Head over Heels in one of my favorite sequences of the film but then elected to use a cover for mad world. Again I think it makes sense , I wonder though if they would've done another rendition themselves had they been asked? That would've been cool.
