Prevent overheating on amphetamine during hot summer days

Ive just returned to college after a year of being treated for Social Anxiety, ADD, and Depression. After many drug changes, the most effective drug for me by far has been Dexedrine SR, with sometimes .5mg Klonopin to take the edge off. At home I noticed that amphetamine gave me heat intolerance, so I asked my psychiatrist to give me 3 5mg Dexedrine SR per day instead of 15 mg, so I had more control. After a week of school using various dosages of Dexedrine SR, I've noticed I just can't prevent heat intolerance. The weather outside is always around 90 degrees, and I can't prevent being outside often.

So what are ways, drugs, whatever to prevent overheating on amphetamine. Drinking lots of water helps a bit. But are there any tips you can give me now that might make me able to keep taking this miracle drug for my problems. 'Cause right now I'm weaning off, and cooling off in the dorms. Thanks -Will

Lots of water, electrolytes, loose clothing. Stay indoors/in cool areas as much as you can. Wear a wet towel on your head.

If it's that severe you can look into getting one of those suits that recirculates water around in it. I think they're used for diving and stuff.

I have really bad heat intolerance and sweat loads at the drop of the hat, kind of embarrassing, haha.. the most important thing is definitely rehyrdation I think, and wearing cool clothes.. I carry a fan around (japanese style hehe) but an electric handheld one would work too..

This is kind of an inherent problem with amphetamines; they raise body temperature as a side effect. You should probably be careful--if you're outside in 90 + degrees and your body temperature is raised, a heat stroke is just around the corner.

If staying indoors or stopping medication are not options, drink plenty of water and try to dress for the occasion (wearing as little as possible).

Oh yeah, also standard heat-stroke advice - try to avoid the sun when it is at its hottest (midday or 11am-3pm ideally), wear a hat, stay in the shade etc..

Thanks for all the responses, this is a great forum. Yeah I've stopped amphetamine for now, I've had heat stroke once before during a cross country race, and don't want to go through that again 8o So right now I'm taking 2mg klonopin spread out throughout the day now to deal with my social anxiety and the amphetamine withdrawal, as well as skipping classes to cool down in my dorm. My skin still feels really warm and stuff, its odd, but I'm getting cooler slowly, I find amphetamine itself takes like 2-3 days to completely leave my system. I'm going to run out of klonopin soon though, I'm an absolute mess without some kind of effective anti-anxiety drugs. I'm just hoping my new college psychiatrist isn't benzo-phobic. I haven't really made any friends so far in college 'cause I had to be so careful about going outside. Ugh, there's so much stuff wrong with me :!

i know this post is probably a little late, but i work outside in north texas, we've had close to 30 days of over 100 degree weather so far this summer. the heat index is usually around 109 or so.
i take 20 mg dex er a day. i drink from half a gallon to a whole gallon of gatorade and the same amount of water. i find it helps me concentrate on working more, and the heat doesnt bother me when im zoned in and moving.
also i wear v neck white t shirts, loose shorts (although in lawncare i should wear pants) and also use an evaporate towel (a frog togg) that i keep in a cooler to use to cool me down when i start getting real hot, the frog togg is kinda like a chamois, i've seen them at academy. i asked my doctor about any precautions to take and he said just to stay hydrated.
i spent one day out side from 8 am to 3 pm, 30 mg dex, kept hydrated, heat index of 105, and felt as fine as i could be in the hellacious heat. never got close to heat stroke, luckily enough. been on the dex working outside for over a month.
