Yes I am a Masshole
OK, before you all yell at me let me tell you the situation.

I was involved in a car accident in August. In which I really messed up my neck & back. In the er they prescribed me 15 hydrocodone. Then I went and saw the dr. the er refered me to and she gave a script for 30 hydros and 30 flexrils. And also physical therapy.

I ran out of hydros and called the dr. explaining to her secretry that if I do not take the pain pills I am in constant pain <which I really truely am> she said the dr mite want to see me and to expect a call. I never got a call so I called the pharmacy and they said that the dr. did call in my prescription for 30 hydros & 30 flex.

I am out again and still in pain :( I plan on going to see her this time but I have doubt that she will prescribe it to me again. My back & neck now legs go into painful spasims that only these pill help.

My question is how do youu think my chance are of getting more?

maybe go physically see the doctor. he may feel better about sending you home with a script that way then if you just phoned again.... or maybe you could get real help from the visit, not just something to cover up the problem, since you say youre in pain.

Def go see your doc and explain your situation. It hasn't been that long since your accident.

I agree...if you truly are hurting, and not just scamming shit, which it appears that you arn't (trying to scam) then go see the doc. There may be some sort of underlying nerve damage or something that needs to be treated promptly, and just taking pills isn't going to make it better, and in fact may make it worse, as the pills cover the pain, so you may be doing more damage to yourself without realizing it. Oh, and a little bonus is that your dr may rx you a higher hydro dose (although you didn't state what dose you are getting) or even percs or some other CII pk. At any rate, if the doc can tell that you are hurting, and you tell her that the hydro + flexeril help, then unless she has reason to believe that you are a drug abuser, she shoudln't have any problem with rxing you what you need, but expect numerous tests, such as CT scan and such. Let us know how you come out. Hope you start to feel better, and don't have anything too terribly wrong with you.

Thanks!

I am going to see the dr. in person as I did state. Of corse I like Hydrocodone for the recreational part (who doesn't) lol, but I am in pain and use it for that. I am on 5/500 kind. I wouldn't be going to physical therapy if I wasn't hurting. I could see the dr. giving me a hard time if I was calling all the time for refills. I have only done this once and it was from the recomondation of my physical therapist. I only take 1-2 a night, its not like I take 30 within 10 days ya know what I mean.

I'll let ya know what happens, thanks again.

Its the weekend now so I guess I have to wait till Monday to call the dr.

Like day_for_night said, see a pain management specialist if your doctor gives you a problem. They are generally more sympathetic to patients who say they're in pain, where as alot of physicians under-estimate how much pain someone is in because they don't take the patients claims seriously. At least that has been my experience. Most physicians I have used tend to think I'm exaggerating the amount of pain I'm in even when I'm honestly not, and some of them are just plain paranoid and think that everyone that complains that they're in pain alot is just trying to scam some pain killers out of them. Pain management specialists have been much more understanding and willing to prescribe narcotics.

I wish I could see a pain specialist but I'm one of those unlucky bastards that has no health insurance :( The only reason I am seeing this dr. is because its covered under my car insurance. I was found not at fault for the accident and have up to $8000.00 for medical expences. Maybe this dr will recommend a pain specialist? I dunno. She was really nice and did not give me a hard time at all the 1st time I saw her. She was very concerned with my pain, at least she acted like she was.

When I called for the refill her secritary was the one who said to me she will probably want to see you if you want the scrip refilled and to expect a call<she seemed to have a attitute about it>. I never got the call as I said and she did refill it no questions asked.

The hospital system I am dealing with knows me and they know I never have gotten hydrocodone before this. I assume they look at past records.

To tell you what pain have if any of you have experience with this, it moves daily from my neck being cramped up and spaziming to my mid- lower back, also now its going into my thighs and butt. Like today my butt & thighs where aching all day. I had difficulty walking, it felt as if I ran a mariton or something. Then other days my mid to lower back aches and goes into these horrible spasims in which for 2-3 minutes I run around trying to get calm it down practicly in tears. Everyday it moves. Its just pure agony. I have had back problems all my life but never like this. <Im not telling them that thou, for insurance reasons> It just really sucks. When the car hit me, she hit my side up by the frount tire and I bounced up and hit my head off the side of the door really hard. Within minutes me neck was hurting.

I Don't know what to do? It just sucks basicly :(

Actually, you would be surprised at the number of ppl who don't enjoy hydro recreationally, and actually will only take it for pain if they are hurting REALLY bad. Oh, and about your comment regarding taking 30 within 10 days...that's really not that much when you think about it, esp. if you are in constant pain. It's only 3 5/500's a day, and that is hardly enough to qualify as abuse.

My, My, My jes, lol. I know not eveyone likes hydrocodone I didn't mean EVERYONE likes it. Why is it some jump on everthing people say sometimes, lol. It makes me laugh.

Anywho, also I know taking 30 pills in 10 days isn't much if your in pain. I just ment to a dr. if your calling them continuasly for refills it may seem like you have a problem other than pain, get me?

Yup, I gotcha. Anyhow, I wasn't jumping on you. Just making a comment. Shit, it's better for me that not everyone likes their hydro, cuz then they give it to me :) Just make sure that you get a follow up appt in, and while your at it, ask if you can take 2 of the 5/500's safely, as 1 still leaves you in some discomfort. In theory, the fact that you asked before upping the dosage shows that you are a responsible, non-drug using patient.
Just so you know, I meant no disrespect, or anything like that. Just trying to be helpful:)

Hey update, went to dr. Im going to a othopetic <cant spell it, lol> specialist. I didn't say anything about more pills until the end of the appointment, all I said was I'm all out and they they only thing that helps the pain, she was way cool, she said no prob and wrote them out.

I thank god to, cuze ontop of the pains I spoke about I have some major cramps <pms> that where unbearable.

So now I'm a happy pain free person, lol. I was just scared because I know so many people scam this shit and sure I do like it, but I really need it to feel normal you know and I just didn't want to look like one of those people.

And tramagesty I wasn't annoyed with you at all, and thanks the the advice.

Glad that you feel better, and that you found a doc willing to help. Hopefully you can get to the root of the problem though... The pills are definitly useful, but not something that you want to take all the time (cuz, then you hafta deal w/tolerance, addiction, and all that other not so fun stuff. Also, the hydro loses it's fun value, and just becomes something that you need.) Oh, and always happy to give advice when needed :)

I just went through something similar with a back problem. I sooo know how pain can take over your life.

I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about. Pain meds are intended to help in pain management. You are honestly in pain, and that is exactly why these drugs are available. The doctors understand that. :)

Just keep asking to get your scripts filled when you are running out. You shouldn't have any problem, and there's no reason for you to need to suffer.

I hope that the orthopedist can help and that your recovery is quick.

Script

Good luck speaking with your doctor. I was in a horrid wreck last september (a year and a handful of months ago) which resulted in a shattered back, spinal cracks, ect, ect. I have technically, according to my neurologist (dont ask, long story, but my PHYSICIAN for a broken back was a neurologist. huh??) and he took me off of all pain medication (oxy 20's) after three months. i went to a pain specialist, and they work hand in hand with you to get you the drugs you need. My old doctor was ready to put me on advil, seriously, when a face to face consultation with my pain specialist worked out a schedule of oxy's and oxyIR's, that keeps the pain to a bareass minimum. So, to sum it all up.. if at ALL possible, try to always pick up scripts in person, via appointments. It lets the doctor know if they are giving it to someone in need, and the doctor will be more than happy to fill your pain pill scripts if he knows he's not just blindly writing rx's for random junkies. good luck with everything.

I went through a very similar situation ... of course, it was a good year after the (auto) accident before sought help for my pain - turns out I had two blown discs (lumbar) ... you sound truly concerned about getting help, so I'd go back to yer doctor and ask for an MRI, this will show the extent of the damage... and they can go from there ... asking for the MRI early on will give them the time (and money) to take care of the problem instead of just giving you pain killers - if it IS a disc problem then something like a lumbar epidural or nerve block could actually *fix* the problem... I mean, who wants to be in a situation like me? I am not *fixed* but rather take copious amounts of C-II narcotics each month (1600ug Actiq and 200ug/hr Duragesic [2 x 100ug patches at a time]) ... really, WHO would want to live a life like that?

LOL, I do I do!!! But seriouslly, I have maybe 4 bulging discs in my lower spine area but no herniated discs (yet). My doc said I need to go to PT soon and he is cutting me from the percocet. He gives me scripts here and there but nothing management wise and I am in pain every day. PhreeX, do you think my condition warrants pain management with opiates and where do you suggest I start. I do need something as I am in serious pain, but I doubt I can rely on my GP for that. Do you think I should get the MRI results that show the bulging discs and go searching for a pain doc? orthopedist? what?

I forgot about this, lol.

I've had NO problems with getting my script filled, I got even more last week. Its honestly is the only thing that makes me feel "normal" meaning no pain.

I did have a mri last week and I'm finding out the results this friday. My xrays looked ok to them but the dr. just touched my back and could feel how messed up it is. I hate to say this but I hope they find something on it to explain whats wrong with my back. If they say it looks good I will freek out!!! If its all a-ok, then why do I walk like I have a load in pants??? lol <not always just sometimes>.

Goodluck to the guy above me, Im very surprised your dr. hasn't sent you to a orthopedist! He really should, they do the mri and stuff, at least thats how it works around my way.
