Opioids prescription fill question?

Yesterday I went to urgent care for migraines and got scripted 10ea codeine pills. Today I visited my primary care physician and she gave me a new script for 30 ea of the same pill. I took it to the same pharmacy and they said my insurance wont accept it. It is dated for today. I asked if I could pay cash and she said they wouldn't be able to do it anyways. My question is, if I take it to a different pharmacy company would they be able to fill it if I paid cash?

It sounds like they're following standard procedure, and if standard procedure is to not fill out your script due to some technicality or fault you've accidentally triggered, then your best bet is to go back to your primary care physician and explain the situation to them.

Yea I understand why the Rite Aid (I took it to originally and today) wouldn"t want to fill it but if I take it to a different pharm... say a CVS would they have record that I filled a narcotic rx yesterday and not allow me to fill as well or would it just be a corporate and insurance thing I could bypass by going to a different Pharmacy and not filing Insurance?

Most all states have prescription monitoring programs, so that's why you were unable to fill very similar scripts.

You can't legally have 2 doctors prescribe the same drug at teh same time...

The physician isn't able to do anything (unless maybe they called the pharmacy and said that they are aware that the OP was prescribed the codeine the other day but they want them to take more codeine on top of that for a few days, but I doubt that is the case or that they will go through the trouble). As the above two posters said there is a prescription monitoring system in the US which prevents you from being prescribed the same or similar meds from two different doctors, aka doctor shopping. Otherwise everybody would just go to multiple doctors and keep getting their prescriptions filled, which used to be a problem which is what led to the prescription monitoring programs that connects all the doctors and pharmacies together.

OP, you are going to have to wait until your first prescription is about done before getting another one filled. And by done I don't mean when you have eaten them all, I mean that if the prescription was for 10 days, then you have to wait close to 10 days before getting the next one filled.
