Hey everyone

I have recently lost both my health insurance and prescription coverage and new coverage is not yet in the works. while i wait to have a new plan i am going to be filling 4 prescriptions monthly at full retail price. 2 of them are controlled and rather expensive about $200-250 combined (adhd meds) the other two are pretty cheap, one is $30 or less/month, the other about $80/month. i need to fill the two uncontrolled at least, can go without the adhd meds but dont want to of course!

i have been looking into prescription drug cards and am just so confused as to whether they are worthwhile or not. all of the major chains have their own (i have one from Rite Aid but the discount is minimal) and then theres of course tons of free ones on the web. some charge a monthly fee, others are free and claim to make their profit by being paid a small referall fee by the pharmacy which ultimately fills your prescription. the discounts on free cards seem comparable to ones that charge a membership fee, and for the record the membership fees are pretty low, 5 to 10 bucks a month.

i am wondering if anyone has any experience here with these, are they worth it? are they a scam? should i try a paid one, or a free one? what % discount do you generally expect to see with these cards?

i just feel like youre not "supposed" to pay full retail for drugs but dont want to get ripped off. its bad enough that i am used to paying $10 copays for every prescription ive ever needed and now this.

any words of wisdom would be appreciated. and i am in NY by the way.

an example of one of the best ones ive seen so far as discounts go is the PS card http://www.pscard.com/

hope i have placed this post in the proper forum.....

Hey- I'm in the same boat. I know it sucks to be uninsured and the CVS extra care card doesn't cover controlled medication. If I had known that, I wouldn't have wasted my money. Thanks for the link!

you have the CVS card? how much did it cost? i am not talking about the regular shopping "club cards" but rather the "pharmacy savings cards" that they also offer. Rite Aids is an "RX SAVINGS card" and it is separate from their club card you use to get sales. it was free.

and it doesnt cover controlled?! what the hell. that PS card quoted me for my controlled ones as well.....

ugggh !
