So I have to stop smoking cannabis and use marinol for a bit for reasons I do not care to elaborate. I am curious if anyone knows a prescription I can research and see if it is worth trying? Or else an herb besides cannabis that acts in the same way?

This will be discussed with my doctor as I am just trying to make sure I can keep my body on a stable course rather than having to stop just to end up starting again and having a huge period of unstable tolerance to my medications just because my parents want me to jump through a hoop for them because they have total faith in the 3 scheduling system and would rather me not smoke cannabis with my opiates rather than be able to smoke/vaporize/idrasil.

And no.... RC cannabanoids are completely out of the question.

keep your judgement to yourself, nobody is judging you here. That said, medical cannabis is prescription, besides that, Marinol is by far the most common. We're not doctors here, though. You can read up a good bit on that simply by looking through Bluelight using the search function.

Trust me I have been looking around a bit, but I prefer google researching and sometimes that leads here. I am looking for people to name specific ones so I can research it myself and decide whether or not it is worth looking into. I am not asking specifically for recommendations, but just for pointers to ones that have the same activity so I can get a start. So far I have found nothing.... I am guessing there is nothing or else it would be more common knowledge. Still whatever the answer is I would just like to know either way to make my researching easier....

To go a bit more in depth I am looking for a compound that interacts with THC the way CBD does to prolong is and lessen the intoxicating effects.

Iv tried all kinds of non synth cannabinoid herbs for smoking and tea and never found anything that gave you any kinds of buzz. Iv never taken marinol, i dont know of anything you could try other than synth cananbinoids.

Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do, other than try and convince your parents to let you use weed. CBD seems to act mostly as a FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase) inhibitor, ie. it inhibits breakdown of anandamide and other endocannabinoids. These compete with THC for binding to cannabinoid receptors, so FAAH inhibition -> higher levels of endocannabinoids -> lower levels of bound THC -> reduced effects of THC. And of course the endocannabinoids have effects of their own.

So the best alternative to CBD is probably another FAAH inhibitor, but they're not used medically (yet, AFAIK). URB-597 was (is?) available on the RC market, but caused serious health problems for one person. That might have been from a contaminant, but it goes to show you can't really trust RC manufacturers to give you pure stuff, and it's probably a bad idea to take any RC regularly.

/\This is why I made my original post calling RC cannabanoid use an idiotic idea and that no one should even recommend it./\

To say the least it is not my parents that have really told me I can not, but my pain management doctor who is prescribing me opiates my parents also say I go past addiction and dependency to complete unhealthy abuse. Due to their complaints we have to work together to develop some physical evidence (negative pee test to cannabis at my doctors request) so that we can argue I can abstain from claimed "drug abuse" for treatment. It is a stupid game of jumping through hoops, but fuck it at this point I think I can get by as I have been cutting back on my cannabis use to just one smoke session a night. I just wish GW released the THCv and CBD formula they are developing for appetite stimulation and not have to rely on marinol (Pure Thc) instead.

To say the least my situation is freaking ridiculous. I will look into FAAH inhibition and how it works so I can figure out how it works out something that can promote the same effect as CBD. Thank you for the mini-outline.

Edit: "URB597 is a relatively selective, irreversible, carbamate-based inhibitor, though it also inhibits other serine hydrolases, such as carboxylesterases, in peripheral tissues.

All bad

Edit 2: They all seem to be irreversable.... Also not looking for a "buzz," but specific similarities in action as CBD being produced as I will still be using THC in the form of marinol.

Might be a stupid question, but why can't you just keep smoking weed if you're supposed to be taking marinol? How are they going to be able to tell?

I don't think it really matters if an inhibitor is irreversible, since you're probably going to be taking it all the time, your FAAH will be constantly inhibited regardless. It'll still come back when you stop taking it.

I don't know if there are any decent naturally occurring inhibitors, a quick look turned up genistein and a few similar flavones in soy. They have similar potency to CBD (~3-10uM) and apparently account for ~3mg/g of soy beans. But they have lots of other effects that might not be good. Still, a sample of Japanese people had serum concentrations of genistein and daidzein of just under 1uM, so I guess you could get to pharmacologically relevant concentrations.

The only thing I would recommend is a week's worth of zopiclone to help you sleep. Seriously, I dont think there is any point in overcomplicating things. Whilst I'm not completely unsympathetic, relative to a lot of other drugs coming off cannabis is a lot less painful.

I would just grit your teeth and get on with it. God luck whatever you do.

if your looking for CBD without smoking, IMO the best solution would be to vape weed (or obtain vaped weed from someone) and simply make edibles with the vaped weed. That way, you dont get the THC, you dont smoke, and you get the CBD in a form which you can easily consume with the marinol, and they will begin to affect you at the same time.

This would definetly be the ideal situation. Haha, good thinking man.
