Benzos prescribed 2mg klonopin daily, why could I still feel xanax when taken?

So this week or more like last week, I had another change of meds at my psychiatrist (by my request). Despite being a young student, after trying many doctors/psychiatrists and 20 different medications, I have found the one who works with me.

Anyways, I have been prescribed and taking 2mg's of klonopin daily for a year now (1mg in the morning 1mg in the evening). I skip my my evening dose every now and then and sometimes start to feel sick. Anyways I never liked klonopin before being prescribed it, and found it mild in anxiety relief when compared to xanax. I always felt more social, words clearer, and less anxious with xanax (with a pleasant floaty feeling in the head). Well anyways, I told my psychiatrist about how my anxiety has been terrible every now and then, and he agreed to prescribe me xanax to be taken as needed. He prescribed 0.5 in 15 quantity, which is relatively low.

Even without a tolerance I would take 6 or 7 of the 0.5 xanax's or sometimes two of the xanax bars (4mg), I know that sounds very high but I honestly didn't have any tolerance and never blacked out on them at the dose (im 5'6 and 140). Either way I would be real mellow but yet completely wrapped in anxiety relief. But still I didn't ever take less than 2mg's without a tolerance.

So of course now that i've been dependent on klonopin, I definitely was in noway expecting to feel ANYTHING off a 0.5 xanax, but shockingly I did. A much more relief in anxiety (would be nice if it was higher lol, because I only use them once or twice a week), and i also had that relief in my head with a little calmness that I would get before just to a lesser degree. I was so happy and surprised, but most people would say for someone prescribed klonopin 2mg's daily shouldn't expect to feel NOTHING from 0.5 xanax. But I did, and am planning to take them once or twice a week at 1mg's since I have a total of 15 0.5's. So why would this be if I am soo tolerant to klonopin?

Also I from adderall to vyvanse now changed to dexedrine (15mg 4x a day!). However I only dose the dexedrine once a week as well or sometimes twice, because I get all off course. But they say vyvanse is the same thing, but I disagree the dexedrine literally (atleast not yet and wont) produces no comedown or very mild compared to adderall and vyvanse. I feel stimulated but can fall asleep easier on dexedrine, it feels "cleaner" and more pure with less depression, insomnia, anxiety, irritablity etc etc. Why would this be if vyvanse is literally supposed to be the same thing as dexedrine?

I'm so confused daily 2mg klonopin tolerance, but can feel the mild anxiety relief, etc from a tiny 0.5 xanax, and I feel a much cleaner high with less side effects with dexedrine then vyvanse even though I heard vyvanse is basically the same thing....

You're taking an anxiolytic benzo on top of an anxiolytic benzo, of course you're going to experience more anxiety relief. Why does this surprise you?

As for the vyvanse v. dexedrine thing, my (pretty random, we don't get vyvanse here) guess would be that the vyvanse, as a prodrug, metabolizes slowly into dexamphetamine, whereas dexedrine, being straight d-amp, just kicks in, meaning it peaks faster and wears off faster (both in terms of how long it takes to start wearing off and how long it takes to wear off completely after it starts). This extended come down process is probably why you find vyvanse more uncomfortable - you have residue amphetamine in your system for longer, keeping you awake.

It always amazes me when I hear about these American doctors who give people benzos for anxiety, then prescribe amphetamine on top of it.

Even without a tolerance I would take 6 or 7 of the 0.5 xanax's or sometimes two of the xanax bars (4mg), I know that sounds very high but I honestly didn't have any tolerance and never blacked out on them at the dose

If you're walking around and functional on 4mg of xanax, you have a tolerance.

Lol I thought the same thing are you mixing them?
And second if your not then I think your looking a gift horse in the mouth and you should just be happy you can get off on a low dose of xanax and don't question why it doesn't take more medication to hold you over.

Haha yea your right but it also amazes me when I hear about doctors in Australia prescribing huge doses of buprenorphine like 24+mgs a day for people with a 6 month hydrocodone addiction lol I always hear Aussies saying they take 28 mgs a day or whatever and I'm like holy fuck how do you shit!?

There is no hydrocodone over here (a stupid omission imo, since it means people go straight from codeine/tramadol to oxycodone).

And I'm quite happy with my 24mg of buprenorphine :) Though I've never seen any evidence that doctors here prescribe higher doses than they do anywhere else in the world.

I'm like holy fuck how do you shit!?

A little less frequently than everyone else, with the occasional aid of a weak laxative :p

Um of course it surprises me because every benzo user has told me that if you have been taking klonopin 2mg's everyday for a year, you shouldn't be able to feel a tiny 0.5 xanax, especially since that is a low dose in general but also because I have a tolerance since I was prescribed klonopin daily. My psychiatrist even said, he does this with his other patients he prescribes klonopin with xanax as needed for people he feels have high cases of anxiety and said with how used to my body is to klonopin that I shouldn't "feel" it even if I took 1mg of xanax.

Other than some mild anxiety relief he said that I should not feel anything like a person with no tolerance should feel since I have a tolerance (a mildly high one with since I am prescribed klonopin daily).

Also xanax is one of the first pills I took because my old best friend was heavily addicted to them and would get bars, he was surprised that I didn't black out any of the times I would do it with him. He warned me so much the first time to only take 1 bar (2mg) and I took 2 (4mg) and I felt very calm and fuzzy, but no blackouts/stumbling etc. Also the same thing with alcohol. I always drank 7-8 beers when I first started drinking which I wouldn't do except every other weekend. I didn't find it much because I was very functional and never blacked out, but then I learned from my friends that they cannot drink that much without getting super messed up and would be shocked how I would be acting fine.

As a matter of fact, I became obsessed with wanting to have a black out since I heard so many people experienced them especially with benzos and alcohol (especially the amounts id take) and I wouldn't stop drinking one night, I told my best friend I was gonna experience a blackout because I can't understand why I cant get as messed up as my friends. I took upto 15 shots in an hour!!! (no tolerance) and my friends had to hide the liquor bottle away because they knew I was not going to stop until I probably died. AND I STILL DIDNT BLACK OUT!!! I did have severe alcohol poisoning that was one of the most painful hangovers I had that lasted over two days though.

I hardly ever have any desire to take extra klonopins but I have tried in times of extreme anxiety, and sadly I realized taking even upto 7 of my 1mg klonopins provides crappy anxiety relief compared to benzos and messes with my mood etc since I am prescribed daily, never a total blackout.

I have also taken 70 milligrams of valium the first and only time that I was prescribed them and made those pills last me 4 months since I rarely took them. Again no blackout. Finally I made the biggest mistake ever, I was so depressed one day that I rememeber buying 3 xanax bars 6mg, and yes again without any tolerance, and I felt them pretty strong but still didn't black out, and I did what my best friend warned me not to do. I had one shot of alcohol and I just remember waking up several hours later with friends crying etc trying to get me in their car while I was in and out of consciousness. Basically I kinda went unconscious or some very deep sleep after I took that shot of alcohol.

My best friend had been taking bars very heavily and I didn't even know about benzos or a lot of drugs during that time. He just would talk about how much it helps with anxiety etc. We were and still are both tiny for males, but he still never figured out how I never blacked out all of those times that we would take xanax on special occassions. I gave up on trying to figure out and prove to others that with 0 tolerance I have never ever blacked out from benzos alone.

I took 14mg's of ativan at one point in the past when I was living with a relative and wanted to go to the hospital. I really thought that i'd black out/die or something and it shocked the hell out of doctors and nurses when they had discovered the amount of ativan I took. My uncle was their to witness it but it was too late to stop it, and he showed all the details to the ambulance people about how I took 14 pills out of his prescription and took them all and basically sat around waiting for the ambulance to come.

I had to go to the psych ward because it was viewed as a suicide attempt (although I wasn't literally wishing for death exactly). Benzos were the drugs I least used compared to other ones, so I had 0 zolerance. I actually at the time hated them because I didn't get what was so euphoric about benzos that my best friend liked. Instead I moved on to trying other stuff recreationally meth, shrooms (too many bad experiences), acid, heroin (one of the fewer ones i tried, but heroin gave me this intense sensation of butterflies in my stomach that I have never had and it was so amazing, oxy's (which I hated), legal amphetamines (adderall, vyvanse, and currently dexedrine), cocaine etc etc.

My psychiatrist knows about some of these things as I have talked to him deeply about my depression and other stuff in my life. He did say that it is rare that someone can tolerate such high doses of benzos/alcohol and not black out but he said I was not the first person he has seen that also have not experienced black outs despite of no tolerance and ironically high doses. He said everyone is prone to black outs differently some less then others and some more.

-----OHHHHH I also did black out on shrooms in and out (not fun at all), and also one night of jeeze, my first time taking a oxycodone 20mg, and alcohol, ghb and meth when I was blacked out. It was the trippiest experience ever because when I came back in consciousness, I remember walking and talking to my best friend! It was so weird to explain to him that I wasn't conscious that entire amount of hours he said we talked and did this and that etc, because he said I didn't appear any different. He also revealed to me that I ended up having sex with the guy who sold the meth and that afterwards I threw up heavy blood that ruined my other friends entire car. Yikes, well either way I'm glad I do not black out so easily after that crazy experience.

OH AND BTW, WHAT A COINCIDENCE I FOUND A FRIEND WHO HAD SOME XANAX BARS AT COLLEGE TODAY, AND I GOT 3 BARS AND I TOOK ALL OF THEM 6MG. And no for you guys who don't believe me, i'm not blacked out just like when I had NO tolerance. I feel completely at ease with my anxiety, and social because I have so much to say and am so nervous. Yeah but this was one time thing because this is going to ruin my tolerance etc. I feel so mellow and witty, not stumbling, confused, slurring.

Believe me I wish I could tell you that I have blacked out with some of the doses I mentioned and I have literally tried to (who does that) and it didn't work. It's not important to me anymore because I've learned from others that i'm real lucky because they say it's not any fun and sometimes a lot of crazy things happen.

^^^ "obsessed with wanting to have a blackout"...

... How nice.

I don't really understand your question, your literally mixing 2 of the strongest benzodiazepines in existence, if course they work.

And 0.5mg alprazolam isn't really a "small dose", I mean it is equal to ~ 10mg diazepam.(Valium).

Also remember that anytime you mix drugs, they will enhance each other's effects. I've found this especially true with benzodiazepines, which is why it is actually quite rare for 2 different kinds of benzo's to be prescribed, despite how effective using a short acting benzo like diazepam or alprazolam can be for so called "breakthrough" anxiety.(though technically, alprazolam is NOT a short acting benzo, as it's duration of action is actually medium length, especially at high doses).

You also have to keep in mind that the duration of benzodiazepines is extremely dose dependent. 2ng is kinda a threshold for crossing over from "reasonable doses" to unreasonable.

Finally, chronic clonazepam is both stronger than acute clonazepam, and has a longer duration(which is why BID dosing is effective with long-term use). That means your chronic dose of 2mg clonazepam is actually pretty high.
Remember that with acute use, clonazepam and alprazolam ate roughly equipotent.
Thus, with a single dose, 2mg clonazepam = 2mg alprazolam.
But with chronic dosing, it would be more like 2mg clonazepam = 3mg alprazolam.

And then the fact that your mixing alprazolam with it will make the alprazolam dose stronger as well.
So really you could say that your 0.5mg Xanax=0.75mg or so.

If your really that curious, take a little time to research the pharmacology of benzodiazepines. I could even pass you a couple of papers.
Also look into P450 inhibition, which is playing a role in the effectiveness of your dose.

But if all of that doesn't clear things up for you, I can't help you!
