I thought I'd create this thread as i was hijacking others for answers 8(

Anyway the point of this thread is to find out if Over the Counter Drugs are safe to use with your Prescriptions, I'll start with my question:

I take Ziprasidone 60mg, Venlafaxine 75mg, Propranalol 50mg and Clonazepam 6mg, I'm wondering if codeine and caffeine (my regular cup's of tea) would be safe to take with this combination and if so i what's the safe quantity of codeine to take and should i limit my caffeine intake?

Feel free to ask your own queries

much love and peace

-Schiz

edit: of course if in doubt consult a medical professional

You'll probably get more feedback in Basic Drug Discussion. If your doctor is informed about your general health he may be better able to determine what is safe for you; but I'd probably be more concerned about mixing codeine/clonazepam together.

ah, my mistake, I'll just wait till it's moved

@Legerity: i have a regular GP who i have seen for 7 years i see him ever week or two, i saw him the other day, and he suggested codeine , just really wondering if there is a problem between it and caffeine?

edit: I'm being moved to a specialist psychologist because i scored highly in an ADHD test and need to be treated for it, i think stimulants are out of the questions given my conditions and the aforementioned medications, is there anything else available other than Dex-amphetamines, Ritalin or Adderal?

Between codeine and caffeine? You'll be fine. They have been pressed together in the same tablets for a while. The caffeine helps prevent too much CNS depression from the codeine. :)

Stimulants aren't out of the question, they just aren't the only option. The future in ADHD medication are nicotinic receptor subunit specific partial agonists. That's what you'll see in the future. For now, cannabis is the best drug available for ADHD in my opinion, as it isn't as severely psychologically addictive as amphetamines are. It's 100% unlikely you'll receive a recommendation for medicinal marijuana for ADHD alone, unless you are 18+ years of age and are in a state where medicinal use of marijuana is essentially legal.

If it works for you, yes. However, for roughly half of ADD patients, cannabis will have the opposite of the desired effect.

Hey Schiz, I'm moving this over to BDD. Hopefully you will get the response you are looking for there. Talking to a trusted doctor is always going to be your best bet.:)

^ thanks Herby :)

It is always best to check with your doctor. There are also online interaction checkers such as this one, and others you can find via google. Bear in mind though that if they don't list any interactions, it doesn't mean there definitely aren't any - just that they don't have any in their database..

^can't be much more concise with that answer there that effie has given. i'm going to close the thread on that.

please contact me via pm should you disagree and wish to discuss my decision further.
