i know people pre/post load for ecstasy's neurotoxicity
what about alcohol's?
what about preventing any worsening of HPPD before you take a psych or other drug?
any other drugs that cause damage or symptoms that one can pre/postload for?

for ethanolic intoxication, there is a great deal to be said for ingesting vitamin B1 (thiamin) ...

for a whole list of nutrients to help your body & brain cope with ummmm "lifestyle drugs" check out some of the info in durk pearson's little book _life extension_

(he even has helped design a nutrition supplement called "party pills" -- maybe marketed through some online groups; www.google.com ...)

Pre and post loading in regards to MDMA use reflect the fact that potential MDMA-induced neurotoxicity is mediated by oxidative chemicals. So you take antioxidants to block that (and 5-HTP to increase serotonin production).

HPPD probably isn't caused by oxidative chemicals, so pre and post loading isn't an issue.

You will undoubtabley find posts and web pages where people say "I find 'obscure nutrional supplement X' very helpful when I take RCs", but with these kind of claims, it's always my suspicion that this is always placebo effects.

i didnt think HPPD was due to oxidation, but is there a chance it is due to something that can be prevented by ingesting a chemical?

Also a good idea is taking a Vitamin B12 supplement after nitrous use

Yes, I may be wrong but I remember hearing nitrous depletes B12 vitamins in your body. I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

B12 supplementing wont be very effective if you reach levels low enough that it would be damaging as a result of nitrous oxide use. It (irreversibly) oxidizes the enzyme methionine synthase, which is necessary to make B12 bioavailable (ie - you wont be able to absorb the vitamin). You just have to wait for the gene to recode for it enough 8o

Well we don't know what causes HPPD, so its hard to comment on what might prevent it, but possibley in the future we might be able to talk a little more conclusively.

^ considering i have hppd but love hte pyschedelic mindspace, i cant wait... how much research is being done with HPPD?

^^

if you love the psychedelic mindspace, isn't it kinda cool to
have hppd? Do your symptoms interfere with your reality?

I've had altered vision (tracers, etc...) ever since my 2nd or
3rd acid experience. Given the option, I would choose to
keep this alteration. It is part of who i am.

B12 is also essential for processing
alcohol.

If you have eaten little or no red meat for
more than 2 years (long enough for your
body's reserves to be depleted), you must
take B12 supplements or you can get
torturous 24+ hour hangovers from
alcohol!!! not fun

plastic soul, i love psychedelics for how they make me think/percieve, and the wonderful conceptual visuals linked to my thoughts/sense of meaning. the other visuals, which are the ones that last with HPPD, like static and spatial distortions, i do not enjoy to have 24/7, and although the intense beauty lasts with HPPD which could be a good thing, i forget what an ugly or non-beautiful thing looks like, and everything is plastic/shiny/cartoon/unfamiliar which can cause anxiety

the symptoms dont interfere with my reality, but they still produce anxiety, and it sucks that i can't take psychedelics or my HPPD may get to a point where it does interfere with my reality

Strangely enough, I have not had any red meat (by that, I mean beef) for over 7 years due to the Mad Cow prion protein misfolding disease scare. However, I rarely, if ever, encounter an EtOH hangover. I suppose the B12 in my multivitamins is enough.

what causes HPPD is the lack of a proper framework to integrate and act upon the psychedelic experience, or abuse of the sacrements which undoubtedly will lead to physical symptoms - most likely at the cellular respiratory level and effects of liver-dependant enzymatic changes in the brain - AChE, BUChE, MAO - my 2 cents.

'racetams may help with disrupted cerebral glucose metabolism and "hypoxic" symptoms, melatonin may work for circadian disturbances.

nanobrain if that was the cause of HPPD, a lot more than 3% of acid users would get it
thanks for telling me i got HPPD because I abuse the psychedelics, when you have no idea of how or why i use or haev used

anhalonium9 ive read that anti-psychotics exacerbate it, this is only from memory though so don't trust it
