I just took a pregnancy test about an hour ago and it was positive...and this is at a time when i am in the middle of detoxing. about day 3. naturally as most people do when detoxing, i've been using a combination of a medications to ease into it (though all medications i've taken are at the lowest doses possible thank god) but i am extremely worried now- i have been on clonodine, ambien, suboxone (though havent taken in a few days) and also klonopin! if only i had known! I've only been detoxing for a couple days and thanks to the medications, it hasnt been that hard though i am starting to feel worse- especially with the anxiety of this. this would be happy news if only i wasnt detoxing!~! what should i do from here? what is the safest? i've been told by doctors that though staying on heroin is obviously bad, its still at least somewhat safer than detoxing...because of the fetal distress..hell i am an adult and i can barely handle it! so that says a lot to me. but obviously thats not hte best option either and i want to do this as safely as possible! Does anyone know about this? Also does anyone know if i've been taking the meds i said above, but only for a few days, do you think my outcome might still be ok? also, i already have a 14 month old son which i was on methadone for and he had literally no withdrawals and came out perfect..but that could easily be luck! I am not a regular heroin addict like i used to be, i just relapsed for a short time which is why i am detoxing quickly thereafter- but now it seems i have to reconsider my plan for the safest outcome, just not sure what that is! What a mess. :(

If you go to your doctor, he can stabilize you on a full agonist, whether it be methadone, or otherwise.

A Suboxone doctor could also help you get stabilized on Suboxone. I believe this is the best possible option for you and your child.

Best of luck.

It's dangerous for the fetus to be detoxing in ur first trimester. It's tooooo much stress on the fetus. Especially in such an early stage of pregnancy which you obviously are. You could miscarry if you continue to detox.

Go to you doc. Be truthful when expelling the situation. Maybe they can put you on an extremely low dose of methadone. Like 2-5mg or whatever your doctor decides is the best med is for you. But stay with a very very low dose sovthat you can detox in your second trimester with little to no symptoms and little to no stress on the fetus. Yes the second trimester is the safest time to detox. I know this bc I was on a low dose of methadone while pregnant. Unfortunatly I couldn't detox off of it bc I was high risk. I have a weak cervix from cervical cancer and having part of it removed. My docs advised me that if I went off during my second trimester the detox and stress could have caused me to miscarry or deliver way too early.

I actually didn't know I was pregnant till I was 2 moths and I was using Xanax and pot. I obviously stopped when I found out I was preggos and my son is normal. My son also had no withdrawal symptoms either. Altho they did have to wean him for 5 days bc I was on 65mg of methadone. But he didn't have a single w/d symptom.

I hope my advice and experience helps you! I wish you the best of luck! And congratulations! Just go to the doctor they will help you. Not scold you. Ur doing the right thing by going and being honest with them and showing that you want to get clean not just for the baby but you. And that you want the best for your baby and don't want to harm it.

For ur last question about the meds i think u will be just fine. And the fetus too. They r pretty low doses and the fetus only gets like .1 of each of the said meds. My doc told me of the 65mg of methadone the baby only gets less than 3% of it. I think u will both be just fine.

Good luck and please keep us posted!!!

You should talk to your physician about this. There are lots of options available for your addiction during your pregnancy and we don't know what's best for you. I would be very honest and up front with your physician and see what they say.

Opiates readily cross over to a fetus from the mother and if you stay on the meds through your pregnancy your child will be weaned off at birth for a few days or so in order to make sure that it isn't miserable.
