I was just prescribed this for sun poisoning. I've never taken this before so I don't know what to expect. Does anyone have any experiences with this drug? I heard that it can cause euphoria? Really? I didn't think a corticosteroid was capable of this.

I've had these nearly everytime my asthma gets bad - I've never experienced anything other than findin it easier 2 breathe after a couple of days.
I know whenever I'm on them I have 2 have extra supervision in case they trigger a manic episode (I'm bipolar 1), so I suppose in some people they could trigger some sort of euphoria, though IME I've never experienced an episode triggered by prednisone.
Have u taken ur dose 4 2day yet? If not, the pills I am always given taste absolutely rank, ava drink handy just in case (if u got pills).

Ive taken them when I had to come off IV steroids(5days). I was alergic to them caused, rashes and acne on me, So I wasn't able to continue with them (took only 1 days worth)....stopping those IV steroids CT; my life was HELL for 1 week I couldn't walk I had the knees of an 95yr old man....just my story.

Thanks all.

I've taken my dose for today, but I'm having an odd reaction to it.

Severe congestion and coughing, super aggressive like I want to fight and argue with anyone, expected nausea, and real bad stomach pains.

^ Agression/agitation can be a side effect of corticosteroids like prednisolone; euphoria is a rare side effect. Bad stomach pains and severe congestion don't sound good at all - I would stop taking it (you've only just started, right? Corticoteroids must not be stopped abruptly once you've been on them for a while) and speak to your doctor ASAP (as you may need something else in it's place and also to rule out a bad adverse reaction).

I think euphoria can come only in the sense that if you have been feeling like crap, a big boost of a corticosteroid like prednisone can make you feel like you have energy, etc. the side effects are many, but often are worth it for the therapeautic effect gained. Feeling aggressive or having a very quick temper is a very common side effect. You may also notice that you crave sugar and carbs, and your face may swell slightly. You must have a hell of a case of sun poisoning! Take them as directed, it is not good at all to discontinue dosing abruptly.

Whoops, just went back and read better.....yes, the side effects like congestion and pain are not normal, in that case I would discontinue and get with my doc ASAP in case it is something else or you need another drug.... Sorry, need to sharpen my reading skills...

Yes I've only just started taking them. I took my first dose today -- my next one is tomorrow which I'm going to contact my doctor before taking because of the side effects Ientipnwd earlier.

I've heard cautions about stopping corticosteroids abruptly, but I can't seem to see why this is warne against. Does anyone know why?

I was given prednisolone a while ago when I had problem with my adrenal gland due to overuse of topical steroids and I really didn't get on with it, it is difficult to describe but it seemed to change my personality and not for the better. I talked to the specialist I was seeing at the time and was changed to Cortisol ( I think, it was a while ago).

I wasn't overly keen on that either, I felt a bit odd on it, like I was charged up shortly after taking it and slowly running down until the next dose, but this may have had more to do with the adrenal gland problems I had at the time given I had collapsed as a result of it not functioning properly. It all sorted itself out in the end but I tapered off them a bit earlier than my doctor wanted me to due to disliking them so much.

its not an anabolic steroid,it's some other kind, im no expert though. so it wont have any side effects anabolics cause. negative or positive, i didnt read above threads so if im off topic, bitch smack me cuz im crashing from adderall

No, it is not an anabolic steroid. Not all steroids are anabolic. A simple Google search would have shown you this...

As effie said, you can still have adverse reactions to it, or to any drug at all. It's probably a good idea to contact your doctor (or at least your pharmacist) right away and let them know about the reactions you're having.

TAKE IT AS PRESCRIBED!!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

You MUST TAPER YOUR DOSE WITH PREDNISONE! FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!

They give it to you in a neat little package that says DAY 1, DAY 2, DAY 3, etc with the # of pills you MUST TAKE and WHEN TO TAKE THEM!

Follow the fucking wrapper. Its very important. Your body stops producing certain natural hormones/steroids while you are taking prednisone. Therefore, you must accustom your body to going without it once again.

As for what everyone else is saying? Prednisone CAN have some interesting mental/physical effects. It is NOT an anabolic, you are right, but it s a pretty crazy drug that does have large impacts on your body. Reports of prednisone causing the EXACT effects the op is describing are NOT unheard of, as well as making people have weird thoughts/dreams/etc.

Basically: this giant dose of a super powerful steroid CAN cause strange and interesting reactions in individuals. Euphoria is extremely rare (but not unheard of I guess), along with all the other mental effects.

I've been on prednisone a few times ( I have bad reactions to certain foods and other allergens, along with poison ivy that have ended me in the ER with a script of prednisone) as WELL AS seen my father on MASSIVE AMOUNTS of the stuff after his liver transplant. And THAT caused some interesting effects in him, let me tell you that. Docs said it was normal, but damn it was like he was tripping sack from that stuff (I'm talking crazy IV doses here not the pills you get).

Anyway, prednisone is a VERY STRONG CHEMICAL that should be RESPECTED in the utmost and the rules should be followed to the T with it.

prednisone is not that strong, it never worked for me so when I have bronchitis probs, I get dexamethasone instead
