Hey everyone! This is my first thread glad to finally join, like many others I have been reading lots of useful information for the past while, great community and thank you all!

My dog has recently been diagnosed (beginning of may) with Ulcerative Colitis, for those of you who are not familiar it is an auto-immune disease that basically screws with your colon causing inflammation.

The first drug they used on my dog to get it under control was Prednisone which is a steroid that ( at least from what I understand ) is an anti inflammatory and works with your adrenal glands to release more cortisone which is a hormone in your body to help with inflammation.

My dog did a lot of reading about it and found nothing but negative comments. My dog was originally prescribed 60mg and has been tapering and is now down to 15mg. During the start of this medication my dog was severely depressed, mind was constantly racing, sweats, bone aches, joint and muscle aches, insomnia and much more. My dog is feeling more stable now but will be dropping another 5mg as of tomorrow. I hear that around this time is when it gets dangerous and tapering should be done very slow due to the fact that your adrenal glands are now learning to turn "back on" and needs to readjust. But the dr. feels that just dropping 5mg a week should be fine. even after 10mg.

So, my dog has been wondering who has had experience with this steroid, what they went through and also any information or small signs to look out for when dropping under 10mg to avoid any serious complications.

My dog also have been prescribed Xanax, Percocets, Ativan, Dilaudid, and many more heavy narcotics and medications throughout its stay at the hospital ( was hospitalized for 2 months but was released 4 times and went back the next day each time because of complications with my dogs body rejecting oral medications leading to vomitting, dizziness, soreness, and having fever like issues this also could of been due to the fact the my dogs body was going through serious withdrawals from IV dilaudi that was given to him every 2hours 5mg, so many medications dont know which affects are from what ) My dog also have Vyvanse and Adderall which is for my dogs add.

My dog is aware of all negatives and potential life threatening side effects these drugs could induce if not educated and not taken properly. And for the most part my dog is responsible with them ( thanks to bluelight ). Either way I was also wondering if I should stay away from everything during this time of the taper? Or is there anything I should stop taking during this time.

Any information on this steroid would be great thank you! My dog is also aware that a lot of these questions should be discussed with the Dr. especially when it comes to what medications can be mixed and matched, unforntuntly she is on vaca for another week.

My dog would also like to know if there is any recreational potential with these? I am aware they are not anabolic but is there anything useful prednisone can do for you other then anti-inflammatory power?

Sorry if this thread is very scattered, mentally my dog is still recovering from all the medications, and hosptization.

Medications Given ( these were not given all at once but throughout different discharges to try and treat different sideffects ) :
- dilaudid
- HyroMorph Contin
- Percoets 5/325
- Xanax
- Valium
- Ativan (sublingual)
- Prednisone
- Florastor
- Fentanyl Patch
- Just recently put on Mesavant ( MesaLisine)
- Remicade infusions every 8 weeks

And then Vyvanse, Dexedrine IR, and Adderall for add which was diagnossed prior to the whole Ulcersative Colitis mess.

Cheers, sorry for long post.

Prednisone is not an AAS. A 5 second google search could have told you that. Stop saying "My dog" because that will not save you in court. Again, a google search would have sufficed to inform you of that.

One thing I do not do is spoonfeed. Do your own research, learn this yourself, and talk with your doctor about what the best option would be concerning this medication.

This was posted in the Steroid section and this is considered a steroid. I am aware it is not an AAS and that it is a corticosteroid. I dont know what gave you any impression that I was seeking information basing it off a AAS. I asked if it could be used recreational and by that I was simply asking it in a way if people use this medication for any other purposes other than autoimmune or inflammatory problems, while i was researching about this medication many people seemed to have an odd intrest in it and i was wondering why anyone would ever want to take this, as it has been the worst experience/medication I have ever been on.

I am not asking to be spoon fed, I am asking for experiences that people may have had while being on this medication along with there experiences and information needed during the lower tapering of under 10mg, if you know anything about this one specifically it becomes dangerous under 10mg if not tapered properly especially when recovering from a colitis flare as you can end up right in the hospital were you started.

As I have also mentioned it in my thread that the specialist is currently on vacation, therefor she can not be spoken to until she is back next week. As for the family doctor she does not know anything Prednisone when it comes to colitis.

As for saying my dog, I simply read the rules of the forum and it was something that was stated there. But thank you for that.

And to your post previous to your edit, I dont understand why you would call be a doctor seeker? Along with calling me a moron. I was simply stating the medications that were given in hopes that that would be used in conjunction with the type advice I needed about the taper ( such as maybe staying away from add medications because they do put stress on you adrenal gland ). All prescriptions were given through a medicine specialist at the hospital for legitimate purposes, as for my add that is legit-mate as well and prescribed. So I dont know why you are coming off so harsh on me.

I was on it for 3 weeks a couple years ago, I suffered some fatigue and loss of appetite but other than that, nothing. It worked and I was cured.

I really think you should speak to your specialist when she comes back. Till then, take it as prescribed.

What's this "my dog" bullshit? A dog doesn't get prescribed Dexedrine and Fentanyl Patches. I don't any fucking dog that isn't 6 feet under after a binge on all those prescriptions.

Prednisone won't get you high so I'm sorry that you will have to find another medication to get fucked up on.

Your depression is a result of all the narctotics you were on. In the future, find one that works, stick to the dose you are supposed to take, and don't use them recreationally like you have been doing. High doses of opiates will fuck with your colon FYI. It's already inflamed from your condition so opiate/opiod induced constipation is not going to help with it getting better.

Speak to your doctor when she comes back like Voxide stated.
