predisposition to negative trips?

I know it all depends on set and setting, but it seems that I've had an awful lot of anxiety-inducing psychedelic experiences, even in settings where I felt rather comfortable. (I've done mushrooms twice, DMT a handful of times, LSA, amanitas, and way too much DXM--not that dex is particularly psychedelic IME but nonetheless...)

Mushrooms caused a sense of "physical impossibility"--everything looked like MC Eschers impossible staircase and the distortion lead to confusion and eventually panic. DMT and the way it makes everything seem so 'alien' usually whisks me away too fast for me to worry consciously, but its intensity alone has been alarming at times simply because of the "entities" I encountered. LSA gives a nasty body load and a shit ton of nausea (then again I was eating MG seeds) and I had a hellish trip on it once. Amanitas caused me to freak out and blame myself for virtually every problem in the world...anyway long story short I've had some very frightening trips.

My question is, are certain people more predisposed to "bad trips" than others? i feel as if I have gone into most of my trips (not all of course) with a good mentality as well as respect for the drug and its effects, but there always seems to be an unnerving edge to my trips and i want to minimize this.

Additionally I would like to know what kind of activities to do on mushrooms that could lead to a more insightful or "spiritual" experience as I plan on revisiting boomtown here soon and while recreation is cool and all, sometimes a simple high, as people call it, leaves much to be desired.

I apologize in advance if this thread seems directionless, redundant, or provokes an instinctual response of "UTFSE" but my searches didn't turn up much at all. Thanks for any help you can give me too.

Good suggestion indeed, I love meditating but for some reason could never seem to get into it while on drugs. Sometimes its so hard to focus on something so natural especially when you're high or tripping at least for me

Try taking a benzo or drinking some alcohol (i know i'm gonna get abuse for suggesting this)..

Or just take less?

Or none at all.

If you go into a trip worried about last time then it has an effect. You need to trust the mushroom with your wellbeing - it's been helping people for thousands of years and knows how to help.

The solution is to surrender your 'keeping control of the situation' instinct. You cant do it, and fighting to do so causes anxiety.

And what is there to keep control of? Your body is made out of molecules that arent yours, and have in fact been used by other lifeforms before you. The dna that defines who you are isnt yours to keep control of either. Its an entity that has been doing its thing for millions of years without your supervision, you are just the current observer of someone elses experiment.

So just observe and trust the universe, after all, you wouldnt be here without it :)

Or more simply, just let go to the experience x

I would say yes, because there are people who are definitely predisposed to having a negative or anxious sobriety as well... and trips or other drug experiences are extensions of that. Well maybe not in all cases because some drugs mainly reduce certain sensations (they can be inhibiting, numbing, etc).

Reinforcing, amplifying or manifesting drugs... they tend to bring what is already there more eminently to the surface.

Things that may lie behind this are that some people get pretty scared or freaked out when they feel they lose grip or control of their world.
As long as they understand and oversee things that happen, there is no conflict for them.
But some conflicts or questions may threaten to shake the foundation or core of their understanding. Existentialism could be a waking nightmare for them.
Tripping opens up doors to matters like these and when you learn to deal with that kind of stuff, learn insights or let go even when you do not arrive at any answers... it can be wonderful.
But if you only wanted the pretty colors and can not stand the trip threatening everything you thought was simple, answered and true... it can be hard to be okay with, I'm sure.

FWIW, the drugs you mentioned can be problematic for many people:

DMT is just very very intense.
Mushrooms are IMO also very hardcore and can be unforgiving at doses beyond light/mild ones, and it can be irrational and symbolic.
LSA-containing seeds certainly have a potential for nausea and other side-effects and not everyone finds them worthwhile.
Amanita mushrooms can apparently also be quite difficult, unusual and far from recreational.
DXM is also something not enjoyed by everyone. I hate the stuff and many others do. But there are enthousiasts...

I am not going to suggest drugs to you, but just say that you might want to find something that suits you better.
