Hello everybody. I hope everyone is well. Mods I didn't know where to put this so please move if appropriate. I really need this info for a friend's research experiment.
Ok please someone tell me if I have this right.. I've been doing the research and think I've got a way that'd work to precipitate calcium morphenate from a water solution ofmorphinesulfate. So hear goes. I'm trying to find the info for a friend who is doing the experiment.
Dissolve morphine sulfate ir tablets in appropriate amount of water maybe making it slightly acidic say pH 5. Let the solution sit for 5-10min. Then filter out all insoluble matter using*coffeefilters and vacuum filtration then a second filtration through filter paper.
Then once you've got a crystal clear solution add calcium hydroxide until a pH of 11.5 is reached. At this point the morphine sulfate should now be calcium morphenate soluble in basic solutions over 11.5. Correct?
Now here's where I think I get confused. Do you then add calcium carbonate to the solution until a pH of 9 is reached then cool in an ice bath and the ccrystals of morphine base precipitate out of the solution the colder it gets?
Then I'm thinking the last step is to vacuum filter the solution through even justcoffeefilters(they use tshirts and burlap bags for filtration in iraq).
Then let the crystals or powder of morphine base dry on the coffee filter over vacuum or let filter sit on layer of anhydrous magnesium sulfate til it's dry.
Please I desperately need to know from one of you chemistry geniuses and tell me if I've got it right or tell me the right way. My buddy really wants to do this and the possibly makehydromorphonefrom there.
Thank you so much for any help. I really need it and appreciate everything the people on this forum have done for me.
Sorry.*
Also the entire experiment is carried out at 70 degrees c and no higher no lower?correct?*
Until the last step of cooling to precipitate the base. Correct.
