Precipitating methamphetamine out of a water solution?

Let's say I have a small quantity of meth HCl dissolved in a small quantity of water and I want to get at the meth when it's nice and dry without losing any to vaporization (as meth vaporizes at around the same temperature as water does, making an evaporation unfeasible), how would I do this? My two ideas are: 1.) Acid/Base extraction using a nonpolar solvent and a base to alkalanize the water up to where the meth gets absorbed into the solvent, then precipitate it back out using HCl gas. 2.) Add methanol to the water then stick it in the freezer till the water freezes and the methanol remains a liquid, then take that liquid and evap it at 174 degrees well below the meth vapor threshold.

Would the water in #2 still contain meth once it's frozen, or is this the right idea? Might even a little meth precipitate out in the freezer from temperature alone?

Any thoughts would be welcome, thanks
