Does anyone pre-load tyrosine before dosing? I have started to pre-load about 1700 mg of tyrosine before taking my opiates, and have noticed a dramatic increase in the high.

I know that dopamine is one of the main chemicals released by opiates, so that's the reason I tried it.

Anyone else tried it?

Never tried it, but I'm definatly thinking placebo... unless your diet was seriously lacking tyrosine to start with.

i'm not sure how well L-tyrosine crosses the blood brain barrier. i also read something about the mechanism of 5-HTP being dependent on the enzyme tryptophan decarboxylase being constitutively unsaturated - i think it said about 70% saturation, where as the synthetic pathways for dopamine from tyrosine ARE constitutively saturated. sorry not very scientific but you could look it up.

Amino acids cross the BBB fine. I think you're getting Trypophan hydroxylase (which is saturated physiologically) and L-amino acid decarboxylase mixed up. LAAD is no where near saturated, and is very effecient at turning 5-HTP into 5-HT... that's the problem, it does it everywhere, in the gut, in the blood, in tissues everywhere.

But the conversion of tyrosine to dopamine is definatly a saturated pathway... thats why they give people L-dopa instead.
