Hey Folks,
Im helping care for my Aunt who is undergoing chemotherapy. She is suffering nausia and is having trouble maintaining her weight. Ive purchased half an ounce of organically grown bush buds and am unsure what form of administration would be best for her and what dosage is best. We want to treat the nausia and improve her appetite, the pain is under control with oxycontin. I had a smoke last night and it is probably medium in strength, good body stone and I got the munchies. The grower said its a indica dominant strain crossed with sativa.

Smoking would have the most rapid onset, but eating it would have a longer duration of action which could be a good advantage in this situation.

Of course if the cancer is related to the lungs or she has a lung disease already, then smoking would not be a great idea.

Best of luck arjans, that's great of you to look out for her like that. :)

Well its not lung related so I suppose smoking would be the best bet. Ive got a cookie recipe but from what Ive read dosage is a bit of a gamble and I dont want to have her experience that 'couch lock' feeling. Will roll her some joints and see how it goes for her nausia and increasing her appetite. Hopefully it helps, breaks my heart to see her in so much discomfort vomiting from the chemo

I'd say both ROA's have their advantages. Eating is longer lasting and a bit smoother, so would be good if she wants to avoid feeling stoned or intoxicated, and I've personally found it more mellow and less harsh/trippy.

On the other hand, smoking will kick in a lot faster, and if she's having trouble with nausea and appetite, getting baked marijuana goods to stay down might be tricky in the first place.

I'd say try both and see which works best for her.

agree with Crankinit, having been in this situation myself there is no way in hell a chemotherapy patient will be able to stomach dope cookies/brownies whilst experiencing the side effects from the chemotherapy drugs. Small joints are definitely the go.

Vaporizing seems like it would probably be the healthiest option. So long as her cannabis intake isn't huge and she doesn't have lung issues then smoking it could be OK, I would probably suggest a pipe (probably not a bong, it has the advantage of water filtration but I feel is overboard) just so she has to smoke less weed so its a bit healthies and also saves coin.

Eating weed could work but if appetite is part of the problem she is probably going to have to inhale the THC in the first place and adding cookies to that could be overboard.

Unfortunately I am not very knowledgable and have zero experience using cannabis medicinally, I wish your Aunt all the best and hope she can find some relief in the good herb.

I've never used it medicinally but I think taking small tokes of a pipe or a joint of straight bud would be best. That way she can gauge how much she needs to feel better, and if it isn't enough then she can always increase the dosage.

Eating might lead to an uncomfortable experience if she hasn't used marijuana anymore, plus there is the problem of keeping the bud down.

So yeah, just get a pipe with a small cone and let her take a few hits from it and see how she feels.

Thanks for all your imput guys. It took a hell of alot of persuasion to convince her to give it a try. My aunt is a retired private school teacher and church goer so a bong or pipe was out of the question as she associates that with illegal drug abuse. So I made her some really neat slim joints with a filter and talked her through her first smoke tonight. Thankfully the pot was cured well and is smooth on the throat and lungs so no problems there. All I can say is WOW. She said it dulled the nausia almost completely. Plus 45 mins after her smoke she ate her first decent sized meal in over a week and managed to keep it down. Going to try and get her to watch 'The Union' with me after we share a smoke and educate her a bit as she is actually feeling guilty about it and is worried about her reputation at the church!

Great to hear! :)

It should be even more legal for people who need it like that than it should be for the rest of us ;)
