SOQUEL -- A cannabis cooperative was damaged early Saturday morning when two unknown assailants threw a Molotov cocktail into the cannabis cooperative.

Security cameras captured video of two young white males -- whose faces were obscured by bandanas -- throwing the Molotov cocktail through the window of the Capitola Healing Association on Winkle Avenue around 2:30 a.m...

Hard to understand who could be behind the many, many firebombings of medical marijuana coops.
Who can guess who might do something? There is no way to tell who it might be....
Other than large pharmaceutical companies, the alcohol or tobacco lobbies, or born-again zealots, that is...
 
I'm a bit jaded I guess, but my initial assumption is that some business that is hurt by marijuana sales is responsible. How regularly has this actually happened?

IDK - theres a lot of juvenile stupidity that goes on in that area, I mean a LOT. A long history of typical youth-driven pointless vandalism. The fact that it was two young white males reinforces my suspicions. I'm guessing just 2 young locals w/ a grudge of some sort against the operation. Maybe they got burned, maybe they are close to the owners of the other cannabis club in soquel, who knows.

But that shits crazy, I never saw it in the sentinel!
 
Why?

We have tons of Medical Clubs in this county (where soquel is). Tons. And most of them are pushing and profiting way more than this tiny, neighborhood cannabis club in a relatively quiet, upper-middle class, white suburb.

It doesn't make any sense. I live here. The cartel has nothing to do with this place, everyone here grows their own weed or gets it from somewhere else in Northern California. We don't have shitty mexican weed.

There are small gangs here (Norteno and Soreno mostly), but they wouldn't be seen dead with a couple of young white teenagers. And I see no reason why they would want to firebomb a cannabis club.
 
"firebomb" is kind of overkill for a Molotov (though technically correct.. it implies something bigger in my mind)
 
^ Exactly. I think people are reading into this too much because on the surface, it sounds like all the organized and motivated firebombings that where happening to the legal high business.

If two young white kids throw a bottle of flaming gas through a convenience store window, would you say its the cartel?

It does happen to be a medical marijuana business, but so what? Keep in mind this is california, the medical marijuana business isn't going anywhere. The cartels don't even have a significant presence in the NorCal marijuana trade. We've had a self-sufficient marijuana market here long before med. marijuana ever came about. And by now, the system/structure/market is well established. The cartel would have to wipe out well over half the clubs to even put a dent in anything.

you don't remember crazy ass born agains assassinating abortion dr's and setting off bombs in clinic dumpsters? A dr was killed in my home town when I was in middle school. Religious nuts (of all breeds) do all kinds of stupid shit. I'd put way more chips on religious kook than I would cartel action that's for sure =p
 
Id bet on either good old anti-drug christians or drug dealers who where losing business. But dealers would be more likely to target the owners and terrorize them into leaving. Or atleast that's what id do :\
 
As with Etkamine, I am from this area. I would agree that personal vendetta against the proprietor is the most likely reason for this.

I think there is simply way too much weed available in this area for it to be worthwhile for organized crime to engage is intimidation like this against a small club, it would be utterly pointless for them (don't mess with their meth, coke or (to a lesser extent) black tar heroin profits though. Folks get shot all the time a mere half an hour away in Salinas over control of those markets). An over zealous moral crusader seems unlikely to me as well. Marijuana is very sociably acceptable around the Santa Cruz area, people smoke it openly in public and no one seems to object. I think the Radical Right would have forsaken this town a long time ago.
 
^ Yep, I think most of us here in the area feel the same. It's simply illogical that it would have any kind of tie to organized crime. It would be a completely pointless risk for them to take.

BTW, nice to see more heads from the 831 on here :D
 
Yeah those are not small gangs... I'd just say this act was probably just some random ass idea the two of them thought of. Like throwing a fire bomb through a convience store...there's no point in doing it but "gangsters" and wanna be "bad asses" think its fun and makes them look hard. They just wanted to do hoodrat things.
