pot causing depression?

lol well i can definitely tell you from experience that smoking up until your completely and utterly useless every time you feel down/anxious/depressed/sad/bored/or any uncomfortable emotion really.. will NOT help your depression. It may seem like a cure-all at the time, but the next day and sometimes the following week you'll feel it, and it will be worse than before.

I have a high stress job in which I am dealing with people constantly all day and I have been using it, more relying on it to help keep me calm and mentally motivated throughout the day and week. In extreme moderation it seems to work best in my honest opinion. A hit or two at lunch will usually be enough to calm me down and relax me enough to where I do not feel overwhelmed with stress but usually not enough to significantly slow me down. Anymore than that starts have more adverse side effects and typically interferes with my work.

Really, as far as dosages is concerning, it depends heavily on tolerance. With little to no tolerance, one hit can be enough to send you to the moon. Personally, if you really want it to use it to help with your depression I would say start with extremely small doses, and make sure you have something to do after dosing, and do not re-dose. that is how you get to HOLY FUCK high. not a good feeling, and not something you want to experience if you are trying to treat depression. Of course, a non-biased licenced physician would probably be the best person to talk to about this subject if at all possible.

^ I completely agree with this. Therapy is pretty awesome lol. If I make sure I smoke specifically when I'm feeling good, I'll feel ten times better, even throughout the week. It's bad to smoke when you're feeling bad, even small amounts. I'll get the opposite effect of what I described, feeling bad for an amount of time after. Don't smoke when you have things to do, having work pile up is the last thing you want when you're depressed.

A McGill University study has found small doses of marijuana can raise serotonin levels,

...This here is evidence then, why people like to ease their comedown from using MDMA with weed. (Not too much obviously) To replenish lost serotonin.

To OP. I actually find that Too much ketamine too often is very bad for me, but in a decent dose say every 10 days works much better. I start going a bit weird and think weird things when i do it every 2 days.

I suffer from depression, everytime ive smoked weed so far its made me very tired but i am much happier as a person :)

It depends what type of things you need to get done - I think that a few hits help my writing and my focus when I'm working on a paper. When I smoke weed I don't feel quite as stressed about deadlines and other time-related things. So it actually helps me at reasonable doses. I smoke about 0.75g a day.

Smoking a plant is not gonna cure deppression, yeah it may make you feel better while your high but it's hardly a cure.

ime the best cure for deppression is to figure out whats making you so down, and do something about it. In my case it was working a shitty job which I went out and did something about. Smoking weed everyday to alleviate that shit is gonna burn you down into a deep sad hole. Trust me i've been there for the past 5 years.

mdma will raise serotonin levels too.. temporarily. I do believe like mdma, weed will cause lowered levels of serotonin as the high wears off. Obviously it is less dramatic but I think it is probably the reason why they say only in small amounts.

With extreme moderation I don't really feel a comedown, nor do I feel completely fucking blown either, but I could understand how some people might be able to use it as a tool. The problem is, from my experience I don't see any possible way for someone to use it with extreme moderation. then again, that is just my perspective. Basically from the first time I've ever gotten high to present day I smoke until I can't smoke no more, a habit i am trying to break.

Not to go too far off topic, but am I the only one who finds this particularly interesting?

I know there's research ongoing with FAAH-inhibitors to slow metabolism of endocannabinoids - I think this is what's being referred to. In fact, one of them, URB597 is in human trials - and also already available as an RC (see thread in ADD for a... facinating... discussion on which posters in the thread are vendor shills, and very little in terms of reports from established members that can be trusted - my betting is that it turned out to not be recreational - which is fine, desirable even, if it fulfills it's therapeutic role well)

+1

i've seen weed cause a lot more depression than i've seen it cure. i'm sure it could help some people at controlled, monitored dosages, but trying to self-medicate depression with marijuana sounds like a roll of the dice with a lot more bad outcomes than good.

Smoke a little bit on a walk around your neighborhood, as you wind down from your day. Weed isn't going to do anything to depression on it's own, but IME mixing it with a nature walk really helps clear out your head and thoughts. In short, weed helps depression by facilitating meditation. Trying to smoke weed all day to cover up your symptoms isn't going to work well.

There are a few threads about this already, as well as a directory mega thread. Next time, please use the search engine function on Bluelight.

I'm going to merge this on into it.
