photos i took before and after the massive storm hit Brisbane yesterday afternoon:
(Sorry for the powerlines in the pis, we didn't have much time to "baton down the hatches" as it were, before it hit, but the sky was just begging to be photographed. What amazed me was the green-blue in the sky; we'd not seen that for such a long time.
10 minutes before the storm hit:
You can see the general shape of the storm cell in the photos. It was so defined... I would have like to have photostitched a series of the pics, but the storm was moving so rapidly that it wouldn't have worked anyway.
We had 120kmp/hr winds at the start. 3 lost 4 panels of fencing (again), all the bins were knocked over, and we almost lost our carport. The rain was squalling, we saw more than one tree knocked down in our street and we got absolutely drenced within seconds of stepping into the rain. crazy. We were lucky in that we didn't lose power and didn't get hail. Mt Gravatt (the mountain, not the suburb) seems to offer us a little protection, in that the storms usually go slightly south of us, so we're never in the epicentre of them.
This is one of the only pics i took afterward. More pressing matters such as fixing our fence and cleaning up the debris in the yard got in the way:
Sorry about the powerlines, but yeah, i didn't have time to set the shot up properly... i just had to get that photo though; the sunset is especially beautiful after a storm.
