Playing for Into the Moat would be sickkkkk. Here in NC hardcore used to be huge and actually mean something. But now everybody has moved on and all the good bands have broken up :(. You can't even go to a show now without it being filled with middle schoolers and high school freshmen and immature dicks starting fights outside the pit. All the good venues around here have shut down, so most shows are played at a church rec center :| or a community center (read: large gym w/ horrible acoustics).

yuck... sounds like how it was getting in ohio before i disappeared (from the scene not the music :D). i'm not a huge concert/show goer anyways in general, but i liked going to hardcore shows because of their intimate setting with the small venues, cheap admission, and good music. it was always cool being able to watch one of your favorite bands then be able to have a drink with them between sets. most good hardcore bands seemed to be compiled of down to earth guys who liked heavy music and good natured violence. :)

the thing that bugged me the most was the vegan/militant straight edge movement, lifestyle choices should never be trendy. it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah, I used to love the atmosphere that shows had. Going to a show every Friday night, knowing for 6 bucks you could see all your friends, get rid of all the stress and BS accumulated throughout the week.

I used to be sXe lol, back in 8th grade. I think (some/most) vegans are extremely self-righteous and arrogant along with 99% of all the edge kids.

agreed. don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being straight edge, it was the ones who did it solely because it was 'the thing to do' that bothered me. same thing with vegans. if it's legit i don't care, but i KNOW that it wasn't coincidental that there were so many vegans and edgers in the scene around here. but yeah the arrogance was what bothered me about it the most. being told that my drinking a couple beers at a show (not being belligerent, mind you) was 'the problem with the scene' by a bunch of kids who just started and stopped drinking within the year... fuck that noise! :D

Yeah, I have no problems with people abstaining from drugs and animal products, but that doesn't mean you should get hoodies and t-shirts devoted to how cool it is or that you have the right to hurt people based solely on that.

It also pisses me off how half the edge kids can't even buy a porno mag or a pack of cigarettes LOL.

haha yeah, since when is not giving an 18 year old 5 bucks to pick you up a pack of cigs considered straight edge, anyways? i don't call my 2 year old nephew straight edge, i just figure he hasn't started gettin fucked up yet.

edit: if that makes sense. :D

no shit so bluelight does have a hardcore scene!
i love going to shows but kinda burnt out on the scene too. i only really goto fests, friends shows or bands i'm obsessed with and haven't seen yet. i used to be the same way going to any venue with any bands on it just to dance and have a good time and then do the 30-person after show diner thing with friends and bands. some of the best nights of my life and some of the best nights still to be had :]

you said it man!

your timing is impeccable btw, lol. i just took it to PM since we were log jamming this thread, THEN ya show up! :D

but yeah, some of my best memories are from shows i went to or times i had with bands after shows etc. good times were had by all! with more exposure came a more diluted scene (as with any scene) around here, with less and less quality music and people, but i'm the same way. i'll hit up a show on the rare occasion if it's a band i'm obsessed with or something.

^I've just bout every early Architecture in Helsinki release on disc, way back to the Kindling and and Like a Call singles... It seems like you are really digging these guys at the moment. I haven't listened to anything since In Case we Die and some of the singles from 2005.... Once i clear my DL cache I'll have to get caught up...
Do make sure to go back and grab Fingers Crossed, my favorite Album for these guys.

They've been one of my favorite bands for a few years now! I absolutely adore them. Like A Call is probably my favorite song ever written. The last album, the one after In Case We Die is much more hit and miss than the first two, but worth a listen I think. Also, they out out a single called That Beep last year that's pretty solid.

I get that you may like The Books also. They've been, along with Animal Collective (and side projects), my favorite musicians for years now[as documented below]. I'm really looking forward to the new the Books record, information on it is scant, though confirmed.
