@xaddictx even more rare are male tortoiseshells. Over 99% of tortoiseshell cats are female!
Funny story: early in my vet tech days, we went in to neuter a tortoiseshell cat. Cut her belly open to spay her, as you do, and the surgeon took like well over 20 minutes trying to find this cat's uterus (it usually takes less than 5 minutes to find it and pull it out). One of the other vet techs went out on a limb and looked under the cat's tail.....sure enough there were two testicles looking back at her

No one even bothered to check what sex this cat was BEFORE surgery because male torties are so fuckin rare!! I will never ever forget that hahahahaha
While we're on the subject, most GINGER cats are MALE. It's something like 90% of gingers are male
