wiki said:Post-punk is a popular musical movement with its roots in the late 1970s, following on the heels of the initial punk rock explosion of the mid-1970s. The genre retains its roots in the punk movement but is more introverted, complex and experimental. Post-punk laid the groundwork for alternative rock by broadening the range of punk and underground music, incorporating elements of Krautrock (particularly the use of synthesizers and extensive repetition), Jamaican dub music (specifically in bass guitar), American funk, studio experimentation, and even punk's traditional polar opposite, disco, into the genre.
It found a firm place in the 1980s indie scene, and led to the development of genres such as gothic rock, industrial music and alternative rock.

It recently came to my attention, that I seem to have a lot of love for post-punk music. I guess it appealed to me a whole lot more than punk itself, mainly because it was slightly more experimental. And there was also a whole lot more room for growth. It all began when I decided to buy the Rough Trade Shops: Post Punk compilation back in 2003. And ever since the discovery of this music, I've continued to find more and more hidden gems out there. It can be very rhythmic, with funky bass lines and tribal influences. But it's also as discordant as punk, with an energetic, frustrated, almost desperate feel to it. And imo, desperation is what makes good music.
