Post-Punk

Boys Don't Cry is the US version of their first album. I read that Robert Smith wasn't happy with it, as 5 of the tracks on the first album were replaced with 5 other tracks by the record company for the Boys Don't Cry release. Three Imaginary Boys is name of their first UK album.

I recommend that, and then tracking down the Boys Don't Cry single. :)
 
I was about to say, wait, isn't Three Imaginary Boys their first?

Three Imaginary Boys is the best Cure song imho. & 10.15 Saturday night, that's a great one.

Oops, my bad. I just read about it on wiki, and you're right. Still, it remains a favourite of mine. I could never quite get into their other stuff as much.
 
Yea I think it's my favourite of theirs. As far as I know, they didn't really do anything quite like that ever again. But I also like Head on the Door and Disintegration. Which is weird as all three of those albums do completely different sounds.
 
Recently I have been getting better acquainted with The Feelies, and I am loving them.

Australian post-punk gems: Boys Next Door, Triffds, Go-Betweens, Died Pretty, The Wreckery.

I also love The Go-Betweens, but not sure they fit into this category. Not sure they fit into any category tbh. They were kinda in a league of their own. Awesome band. Before Hollywood is one of my favourite albums.
 
Fugazi and Minor Threat kick fucking ass, man.

I would challenge you to find a musician making as good of albums as Repeater from Fugazi or Minor Threat or Straight Edge from Minor Threat. Fuck, even Salad Days was awesome.

My favorite track from a really great band - The Holy Rollers from Ian McKaye's Dischord label.

Also, funniest quote ever re: Ian McKaye (discussing his product endorsment for a hot sauce which uses Minor Threat artwork and the name):

A small mention of this was made in music magazine Revolver, where MacKaye commented "I don't really like hot sauce but I like the Minor Threat stuff".

Im sure i'll get flamed for this, but you should check out Cursive, particularly the album Domestica and the EP Burst and Bloom.

Other good bands not from the eighties include Vaux (killer live show), Cave In ( a little nu metal to be in this thread), Q and not U (broken up, but prob the best band yet mentioned) and The Medications (another Dischord band)
