Here's a little information about my self-experimentation with SAM-e and r-ALA. I haven't found much information about post-loading with SAM-e on the web. I would be very interested in hearing about anyone else's experience.

SAM-e and r-ALA:

Over the past 6 months I have been experimenting with new supplements to help me recover after using MDMA.

The two symptoms that I hoped to address were MDMA-related depression and cognitive difficulties (or etarded-ness). I have discovered that a combination of SAM-e and r-ALA completely alleviated these symptoms.

Without SAM-e, I feel like a sad and forgetful person for the second and third days following the roll.

With SAM-e and r-ALA, I feel energized, at peace, and engaged. My mind feels sharp, and my body feels well. No brain zaps, and no sleep-paralysis.

BACKGROUND

I've been taking MDMA recreationally for approximately one and a half years. From quite early on, I recall noticing some memory issues in the week following a night out. About a year into my use, I began to have some issues with depression during the days following use. Not what I would call my "normal" depression, but rather a profound sadness. In the last 6-12 months, much of my "magic" has faded. I haven't noticed any long-term brain issues, but my e-hangovers had worsened to where I've considered giving up on the drug. :(

I've rolled 6 times in the past 6 months. I've post-loaded with SAM-e four times. I took SAM-e as an anti-depressant for approximately 2 months, between rolls 1 and 3. I've pre-loaded and post-loaded with r-ALA three times, twice in combination with SAM-e, and once without.

BEST RESULT:

100 mg of r-ALA at T+1 hour (1 hour after 1st MDMA dose)

100 mg of r-ALA , 800 mg SAM-e at t+16 hours (the following afternoon)
repeat same dose in the morning and afternoon for next three days.

NOTES:

My best results with SAM-e came when I wasn't using it regularly otherwise.
SAM-e is best taken 30 minutes before or 90 minutes after eating.
I weigh about 210 lbs.

SUMMARY:

I believe that SAM-e can greatly reduce the negative effects that many people feel after using MDMA. I believe this based on my experience and what my body is telling me.

I don't have a thorough understanding of how SAM-e and r-ALA interact with my neurochemistry. I don't know of any reason to believe that they may be harmful either. If it turns out that it's helpful for others, perhaps someone with an understanding of what these chemicals do could provide some insight.

While SAM-e is well tolerated in most people, it isn't a good choice for people who are manic. Read up on it before you try it. For all I know, it could be dangerous for you.

SAM-e is an over-the-counter supplement in the US, available pretty much wherever vitamins are sold.

just out of curiousity are these the only supplements your using after rolling? or just the ones you think have helped you most? because i would definitely recommend others.

I have used others, found a few that helped, and some that I liked to take regularly. Piracetam and 5-HTP are two worth discussing. I found that 5-HTP left me feeling out-of-it after the third day, and it complicated my sleep issues, but it did help smooth out the low points. I use Piracetam here and there when I need to push my concentration, and it seems to help if you need to use your brain at work while recovering.

I'm interested in trying CoQ10, Inositol, and Taurine.

To clarify, during the past 6 months - I stuck to SAM-e and r-ALA to isolate their effects.

I have no idea whether SAM-e helps anything with regards to rolling, but I do know that when I take SAM-e I feel wonderful. Like a little kid again.

:)

ALA is great for rolling. very strong antioxidant. Never tried Sam-e but to my knowledge it causes the acute serotonin syndrome if taken with conjunction to mdma, just throwin that out there.
