apparently my great grandmother used to drown kittens in the water barrel out the back of her house. it was the fashion in them days.

here it is still very much the norm for cats to be put in a sack and dropped in the sea, or if an animal is too old or turns for whatever reason a bullet is used. for the amount of bullets that go missing when out on a hunt its easy to have the odd spare for when someone needs their dog putting down.

I have a real fear of Rats, once when i was in Kazakhstan in a supposed 5 star hotel i saw a rat the size of a fucking rabbit just walking along the corridor, I swear it was bigger than some rabbits i have seen.

It was like 37 degrees that day , i could literally see the thing sweating and struggling along to pounce on the nearest poor bastard it could.

i too have got some pets, some will find them ugly i guess, but i love em and the're taking care of all of my kitchen-related waste.

rats are also my taste,
though i only have mice (very cute) atm -> feeding purposes, for my other pets
(not for the snails), but for my leopard geckos (ocassionally, so basically when they are pregnant).

but i have never tasted snail, so let's see how they taste.
i have to say that i'm only considering trying the snails of the second generation, because by now i really like the future parents

apparently just the foot is used, and from what I can tell they don't taste very much like other snails. There is a video on you tube of a woman in France I think who grows snails just for food, might give you an idea. Think sh said she waited 14 days for them to purify.
But handy as pets, cheaper eating lol

thanks for the video, even though i have to say that this is just the "african" way of cooking them, which is a rather cruel, if you ask me

from what i know you start the preparation by feeding the snails with dry food which sends them to "dry rest" (which is the equivalent to hibernation in mammals). then, after a few days you put them into a boiling mixture of water, salt and vinegar and cook them for a short while. (in theory the snail dies the moment it touches the water)
afterwards it should be possible to just pull them out of their houses, cut off the sack that contains the intestines, and process the foot further. (getting rid of the slime etc.)

But I have to wait for at least a year by now, to harvest the first "product"

btw.: i think the species shown in the video is not achatina fulica, but rather achatina achatina. the egg displayed in the video seems impossibly large for fulicas to have hundreds in them at the same time.

There's an awesome cat around us, big fluffy badass one, tried to stroke it a few times but he's having none of it..

We're considering getting a tortoise :D
