possibly to abort a trip?

I was tripping pretty intensely once and asked a nurse friend of mine if it was worth my time to go to the hospital to see if they could give me anything to calm me down. She said that they most likely would stick me in a room and let me ride it out? is there anything that can bring someone down from bad or to intense trip? Or what people suggest taking before and after trips to to reduce the harm they cause to your body.

Something like valium or xanax (maybe even IV'd) could be given to calm you down if you are being violent or the like, but AFAIK there isn't any way of stopping a trip. Heck, we don't know exactly how mushrooms or LSD work, so coming up with a chemical to block its effects is pretty hard.
Just keep you calm and stop you from hurting yourself till you've ridden it out is the way I think.

My boyfriend's ex had a habit of taking acid and then deciding she didn't like it, then asking for a couple Rohypnol to go to sleep. This might not be as effective with a larger dose, but benzos do seem to help someone who's really freaking out, although they won't stop the trip.

I think thorazine (chlorpromazine) or Haldol (haloperidol) is given as injections also. Injected barbs might even be used at times

I always have an amp or two of diazepam when I'm sharing a substance with someone inexperienced, though I don't know of it's effectiveness as I've never used it.

I find a good non-chemical trip-abort to be the use of a computer. The mouse-cursor relationship seems to help me put the actions of my body and the things I see back together.

anti-psychotics tend to leave you confused and sedated, but still tripping. Usually a bad move.

Enough benzos to get KO'd would do the trick as you wouldn't be consciously experiencing anything, including the trip.

ebola

Erowid says xanax and valium......tho I know of people using atavan ...knocks you out with no more trip..

If you presented to an Emergency Department in a highly agitated state secondary to psychedelic intoxication they would either give you a benzodiazepine (IV if you were highly disturbed, probably diazepam) or possibly an antipsychotic such as haloperidol or olanzapine (injected if you were highly disturbed, or oral if you were moderately disturbed). By "highly disturbed" I mean severely agitated, hallucinating, irrational and placing yourself or others at risk with your behaviour. If you were only mildly agitated you may get an oral form of the medications mentioned above, or nothing at all. Going to hospital would be a pretty stressful and unpleasant experience, so I would only resort to it if totally necessary, or if there were medical problems.

GHB would knock you out completely. It's also a more effective anxiolytic than benzos. Between the choice of GHB and benzo's, there's no comparison. GHB is far better.

^^^
If you don't compare the ease of doseage of the two things. GHB doses are difficult at the best of times, let alone when agitated from a bad trip.
I think given the difference in dose sensitivity, the danger associated with using GHB in an altered (and possibly panicked, irrational) state should shift the basis for comparison quite significantly. Compare with pharmaceutical grade, exact doses of benzos and you have a much better chance of getting the doseage side of things right - reducing the risk of further harm etc.

There are times when 'just riding it out' is no longer a viable option in the trippers mind. Things get overwhelming and/or people slip up somewhere. Things go wrong, they need and want a way to fix it. Benzo's seem to be their fix for now at least.

thorazine... i know plenty of ppl that are into high doses of 'cid and shrooms and they always keep thorazine on them... Benzodizepines and Brab's will help too some extent... 30mg of ambien + 2mg of xanax brought me out of a bad trip i was having from AMT and DMT.

I find when I'm freaking out, from drugs or otherwise, 50-100mg of quetiapine calms me down. Often sends me to sleep, too, but that's not really a problem if you're having a bad trip.

Wake up a little groggy but relaxed.

Hell, I split my knee open on quetiapine and it didn't *worry* me. I just figured I probably should see a doc :P

Are there any dangers when mixing LSD/Mushrooms with GHB to kill a trip?

I wouldn't think there are, but am not 100% sure of my knowledge. And, it never hurts to ask. :)
