know those 5 hour energy drinks? one of the ingredients is l- tyrosine which i heard helps to keep amp tolerance low. is this true? also doesn't l-tyrosine have some effect on dopamine? could it be used as a minor substitute while on a tolerance break from amphetamine?

i always have trouble going longer than a 5 day tolerance break. i would like to go at least 10 days. this time im feeling very bored with everything, most likely due to depletion of dopamine because i did more than usual over the weekend. its only the second day on break and im sure ill be feeling back to normal soon but having a little substitute would be nice. thank you

L-Tyrosine doesn't keep amphetamine tolerance low. It's a dopamine precursor. So (hypothetically) taking l-tyrosine would help replenish your dopamine reserves. But there are three issues with that: 1. As you become tolerant to amphetamines, dopamine deficiency isn't the main issue. The bigger issue is dopamine receptor upregulation and damage from oxidative stress. 2. L-Tyrosine is only efficiently absorbed by your body when it has nothing else to compete with, meaning you have to take it on an empty stomach to even make a (hypothetical) difference. So in an energy drink, its a marketing scheme more than anything. 3. There is no conclusive proof that l-tyrosine helps with dopamine deficiency in the first place.

I took a high dose (forget how much, just remember looking at the package after taking some and going 'uh oh') tyrosine once and I felt like I was on speed.

I have use a lot of speed, by injection even, and even more coke, so I know when I am 'sped up' and tyrosine did the trick. But I had been sober from stimulants and most drugs for years prior to tyrosine experimentation.

I believe that my history of wildly excessive drug use has actually made my tolerance lower for all drugs. Either that or I am simply more perceptive of when I experience a 'head change'.

That said, taking a lot of a single amino acid can be a powerful thing, and some would say dangerous. The human body is not adapted well to assimilate proteins in such a manner.

The nutrition scholar Ray Peat writes much about the toxic nature of tryptophan, for instance.

you can use basifying agents such as antacids 3 hours prior to dosing. and dxm lowers it as well.

i gather that LOW doses (30mg or so) everyday helps with tolerance...

BUT...how does a recreational dose of DXM (300-500mg) affect these underlying processes?

^I've had some success with magnesium oxide (the cheapest OTC one I could find) slowing the development of amphetamine tolerance. It slows it, but doesn't eliminate it.
