Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced brain zaps from St Johns Wort (Herbal antidepressant)

I was out clubbing, took my usual dose of SJW that day 3.1mg just over the recommended dose and drank alot of alcohol. About 9am the next day i experienced well.....

It felt like i was about to have a seizure or something like i could feel this zap thing but it wasnt confined to my head only. I felt it in my legs aswell as my chest sort of....

This continued for about half an hour or more...... The same thing has happened to me when i take dirty bzp/piperazines

Can anyone shed any light on this?

If you're describing what I think you're describing... I get this too! I've only ever experienced it after doing Codeine, DXM and Morning Glory seeds, and it doesn't seem to happen every time.

It's like there's one of those prank electric buzzer things in your head, and it shoots down throughout your body?

I've always wondered what it was.

When I was a kid I would get these sensations out of the blue. I remember once specific time during recess in elementary school I was walking with a friend and it felt like a lightning bolt when off in my brain. It was like a zap and then I felt disoriented for a little while. It doesn't happen much anymore. It mainly happens during tramadol withdrawal for me.

I have since told my mum about it and she seems to think it was because of the amount of redbull & vodkas i had (atleast 6) plus A half litre mother earlier in the day...

the stuff i took: BZP and St Johns Wort both work on serotonin

the stuff you took: DXM works on serotonin aswell

My theory: something is interacting with the serotonin (drug we took) in my case alcohol and/or caffeine to bring on that awful feeling.

Serotonin Syndrome comes to mind.....

One of the symptoms is seizures...

just a thought but not sure if thats actually why..

It's not known how St Johns Wort really works. But it's a weak MAOI so taking Serotonergic substances with it is a bit silly. A) it's dangerous and B) they probably will be significantly weaker as a result.

It won't be Serotonin syndrome really. Serotonin syndrome is really rare. It's most likely just low Serotonin levels.

I know you shouldnt take serotonergic substances with St Johns Wort... The BZP was consumed on a different night... Atleast a few weeks after stopping SJW

I only mixed alcohol, caffeine and SJW just to clarify..... and got the brain zaps

The bzp was taken well after i stopped SJW but i did drink alcohol and caffeine and had the same zap feeling......

I've been getting those for a very long time. They are brought on by meds, exhaustion, no sleep, anxiety, drug use, and depression. I always hated trying to explain what they felt like. I'd say, you know the static tv screen. If you could picture a shot go through your head that felt like it looks and sounds....that's it! Lol. But it's like once I got them, I got them through out the years. I hate them though. They make me feel crazy when they get really bad. :(
