I was just wondering this, i was reading up on something else but i read this part for aspartame (which is an artificial sweetener used in many products, including diet drinks, sweets, chewing gum and many other of our foods/substances.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame
Aspartame is a methyl ester of the dipeptide of the natural amino acids L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine. Under strongly acidic or alkaline conditions, aspartame may generate methanol by hydrolysis. Under more severe conditions, the peptide bonds are also hydrolyzed, resulting in the free amino acid

Well isnt ketamine hcl is an alkaline ?

So in theory if you was chewing gum before you took quite a lot of ketamine, it could produce methanol which is harmful to us right?

Ketamine HCl is a neutral salt.

Ive heard its an acid, ive heard its an alkali ive heard its neutral...

I just want some clarification on this lol

Yes i am fully aware that Aspartame is bad news, ive avoided the stuff for most of my life, but i do chew gum with it in sometimes.

It's a salt. Ketamine itself is an amine, and has a lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom. Hydrochloric acid is (obviously) acidic, it dissociates in solution to give H+ cations and Cl- anions. Whenever the twain shall meet, the ketamine molecule donates a pair of electrons to the H+ ion (the proton). The nitrogen atom of ketamine therefore bonds to the hydrogen atom, and becomes positively charged. The chloride anion is negatively charged, and so the two neutralise each other.

Aspartame is just an oligopeptide, why would it be more harmful than proteins or other oligopeptides? I thought the dangers of aspartame have been debunked for quite a while but tbh I have not done the literature digging myself. I have synthed the stuff once though. :P

I do see sacrulose replacing other sweeteners all over the board but it could just as well be for marketing / economic reasons or something like that.

I really don't think there is any reason to say that aspartame would be unsafe.

Also it is not a psychoactive / psychedelic so why would we discuss the compound?

As for the methanol: it may be produced but at very low doses.

a serving of tomato juice provides about 6 times more methanol compared to an equivalent amount of diet beverage with aspartame.

There have been years of fear mongering, misunderstanding of things like the fact that methanol may be produced and sites completely dedicated to it. So sorry guys I think you got it all wrong. Throw some serious studies at me and I am of course ever skeptic, to my own current stance as well. Skeptical as we should all be.

The link with ketamine HCl is absolutely irrelevant. It's a salt as is explained and in any case negligible compared with your stomach acid.

The amount of methanol produced is insanely small and will not harm you in any way. You are perfectly safe.

Just to be clear here: Aspartame is a SAFE sweetener, I'm getting sick of people who tells otherwise, its safe.
