Hi i read on here alot but never have posted. Today i have a question, not sure where it belongs. But i've been taking Xanax 1 mg 2-3 times per day for severe panic and anxiety/ ptsd. I cannot find my bottle anywhere with the remaining pills. I do not abuse them but i do take them consistently 2-3 times per day depending on the day and thoughts. Well i have about a week before i can get refilled, im scared of maybe going through withdrawal, so my friend who takes 10mg valium, gave me some. My question is will those help me not to go through withdrawel until i can get my xanax's refilled? im pretty scared and intimidated of doctors so im afraid to call mine. I'd rather just wait out the remaining week if possible. Thanks in advance.

Well, there is a chance that your doc will think you just wanted to get fucked up and took a week's supply in one go, but it shouldn't matter if you do not do this often. If this is the first time it's happened, or it has been a long time, just call your doc, and tell them that you have an emergency. DO NOT tell them you are taking your friends valium, because that is illicit use, and your doc might not want to continue prescribing you xanax. Tell them you don't want a fucking seizure (depending on how long you've been taking 1mg of Xanax 2-3 times a day (which is roughly equivalent to 20 mg Valium 2-3 times a day)), and to just write the script a week early. There is a very high chance that your doc will phone in your nearest pharmacy to fill up your prescription. So, call your doc ASAP. I have been in your situation many times, but I had a cool doc that would write me a script for w/e I wanted, lol.

Welcome to Bluelight hippychick1979 :)

Valium will help avoid withdrawal and complications if the dose is right. Because of valiums longer half life it does get used for tapering off benzos at times. For safety's sake I'd rather you do whatever you can with medical supervision but I understand things can be pretty complicated at times. I'm going to send this over to Basic Drug Discussion for a discussion on mechanics of benzo withdrawal. If you are more interested in emotional support or addiction resources you may want to check out our The Dark Side forum also in the Drug Discussion are of Bluelight.

First of all, if your story is true then I would call your doctor and tell him/her what happened and maybe the doctor will believe it (especially if this is the 1st time something like this has happened). The doctor may right you an early script, who knows.

But the Valium you got will definitely help you with the withdrawals. In fact, diazepam (Valium) is what's recommended for benzodiazepine withdrawal and taper. Either that or chlordiazepoxide (Librium).

I ended up getting to anxious. BTW i can understand why you said "if your story is true" but it really is. I got too scared for possible withdrawels and was upset to my stomach. I ended up going to the emergency room and told them i didn't care if they thought i was abusing or not, just to make it stop and not let me have a seizure. Doc did a Urine and blood test and saw that i was telling him the truth, he wrote a prescription to last me until i can get mine refilled. Thank you all so much for your help, i was well anxious (hence the reason for the xanax). Hope you all have a great night~~hippy

And thank you as well for the information of the valium, i ended up not taking them because im afraid of mixing medications, that's why i went to the ER. Im sure seeing as the xanax and oxy are prescribed together that the valium would have been fine to mix, but i get too scared i'd rather not if at all possible. But for future references it is good to know.
