I've taken 8000 mg of apap in the past 24 hours. I took 12 10 mg oxycodone w 325 apap and then took another 12 about twelve hours later. Has anyone here taken 8000 mgs and experienced medical problems? Has anybody here taken that much in excess and had no problems.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I suggess that you to go to the hospital. I have in the past took 10g of Acetaminophen and went to the hospital were they put me under psychiatric observation because I doing a psychosis. Fortunately my liver have not been damaged.

Yeah, I really would prefer not to go to the hospital. Could my pain prescription become compromised by doing so? Were you feeling any symptoms (like this psychosis what does that entail?) within 24 hours?

You have taken double the recomended amount, I suggest you seek medical advice. Just because the other poster was not damaged does not mean you wont be. Im not entirely sure if your prescription will be taken away, but it is quite hard to explain away taking that much.

Your body can only metabolize a certain amount of Tylenol safely. When you take more than your body can handle it gets metabolized differently and produces a toxic metabolite that kills the cells that make up your liver. It can take days before symptoms of liver failure start to show. 8000mg is enough to cause damage, but it varies due to other factors like individual chemistry, liver health, other drugs/alcohol etc.

The most common treatment for APAP toxicity is N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) which is available pretty much anywhere that sells vitamins. It helps you eliminate the Tylenol safely. You should really get checked out by a doctor. If you wait until you see symptoms, that means that the damage is already done. Acetaminophen overdose is the number one cause of acute liver failure. If you want to take the risk and not seek medical attention, at least go buy some NAC.

And in the future ALWAYS do a cold water extraction to avoid the high dose APAP. My friend had a liver transplant and believe me, you don't want to go through that!

A lot of people have taken more that 4000mg in one day and haven't notice anything.

Stop taking this now. Do a CWE for crying out loud!

I've taken more than 6G in one day and was ok. It's not recommend at all.

DO NOT DO THIS CONSECUTIVE DAYS IN A ROW.

Only a CWE from now on.

I was going to cold water extraction but my roommates were out all night so I couldn't go into the kitchen.

Try a grocery store vitamin aisle, or a health food store. The pharmacy probably does carry it, but the OTC version in the supplements is the same stuff. So call the store, not the pharmacy.

I'm assuming you're in the US since you said "acetaminophen" rather than "paracetamol." It is definitely OTC and is a commonly used supplement. Just ask for "NAC" or "acetyl-cysteine."

Being a paramedic, the toxic amount of Tylenol is 36,000 grams...But I would still probably go to the hospital or have a friend, you can trust, come and stay with you just in case something happens like seizures, your respiratory drives falls, you become unconscious, etc.

If you notice stomach pains or have any concerns after ingesting more than about 4 grams of APAP, see a doctor. 4000mg in 24 hours is the FDA recommended cutoff.

If you are lucky and young you can probably tolerate bolus doses of up to 10 grams, but that's tempting fate. Either way it's not good for your liver.

Nobody can tell you if you're going to eb okay over the internet. you need to seek medical care, or wait it out.
