Possible Abscess?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I was too concerned to wait and look it up. I have been shooting up for nearly 6 years and never had an abscess. About 3 days ago I did a shot, and almost immediately a rash broke out where I usually shoot up. These past few days I have been applying warm water for a couple hours a day. There are no white spots in the middle and the swelling has gone down immensely. When I feel the area, it is just a bit sensitive, but it feels like there is just a lump where my vein is, as if I had possibly broken the vein. Any advice/experience would be appreciated it. Could I wait one more day? It has been 72 hours and no sign of abscess yet. Thanks.

Only heroin, which I mentioned Ive been doing for 6+years now and rarely if ever miss. This is the first time something like this has happened.

If there is no redness, warmth or pain it is likely fine. You say it is sensitive, you may have poked through your vein somewhat and have what is called "extravasation". That may reabsorb. Keep an eye on it, doing the warm compresses and some motrin will help the swelling also

Yes, it does sound like I should. I mean I went from a daily heroin shooting 2-3 grams a day to using it a few times a month, maybe a half a gram. But there is a bit of redness and when I touch that particular area is does hurt a tiny bit. But it feels like its my vein. It feels enlarged and as if its popping out. I did apply heat to it several times daily and the swelling has gone down immensely as well as the pain. Again there is no white spots, bubbles or puss leaking through, now it just looks like a tiny rash that is slightly raised. Thanks for the input guys!
