Benzos Possibility of seizures

I'm Rx'd 6mg of alprazolam currently and have a pain management appointment on monday. I got my refill on tuesday and am down to about 30 of my script of 90. In order for my urine levels to not be astronomically high in the benzodiazepine department I will have to stop taking my prescription until the day before. I've been on xanax the past 2 months with the last month being on 2mg tid.

With my dosing of 40-50mg per day, how likely is it that I will experience seizures? Also, is there anyway immediately accessible to help with withdrawals?
 
That's alot of alprazolam brotha. i would advise you NOT to stop taking your medicine for a few days. With dosages that high the extreme risk of seizures is enough of a reason not to stop. I would take at least a mg or two a day to keep you out of full blown benzo withdrawal.
As for levels of alprazolam in your urine/blood I am not sure. But, the half life of alprazolam is short so it may not be a problem if you take ~ 2 mg a day which is a third of what your prescribed. BY the start of the week I would imagine your levels would be reasonable. But, I am not an expert. I decided to log on and comment because I see great risk in what you want to do. Going from 40-50 mg (thats an extremely high dosage) to nothing is a dangerous move.
Please be careful and if you need to postpone your appointment it would be more wise than going CT for the rest of the week. In all honesty the chances of going through the weekend with zero benzos and not getting a massive seizure is definitely slim to none. If it was a few mg of alprazolam and not 20-25 bars a day, I would say it is possible to make it through the weekend for some people but not everyone.
Even if you are taking a bar (or a little more/less) I would urge you to have someone you trust to chill with you this weekend. I think in this situation someone monitoring you is essential for your health.

Why are you taking so much? You could well end up seizing and I don't know a safe way to go about this.
 
That has to be a typing mistake. 40-50mg of Xanax a day? WTF? I think he meant 4-5.... I hope he meant 4-5. If you are truly on 40mg+ of Xanax a day and you stop cold turkey I wouldn't be worried about seizures, I'd be worried about death.
 
Your really put your self into a shitty situation. I hate to say it, but I think you're sorta screwed. You have to tell someone. You cannot live while taking 40mgs of alprazolam a day, simple as that. You obviously have a problem that must be addressed. What's to stop this from happening again in a months (or less)? You cannot be on 40mg/day.

As for your actual question. Yes, you will have seizures, but that's not the worst of your problems. No one is exaggerating when they say death is a real possibility. Even if you go from 40 to 2mgs, you'll still fuck yourself up. You gotta tell a doc, he's gotta start you on a taper plan, now. I know this is not what you want to hear, but you put yourself in a really, really, really bad situation.
 
^ yeah you will definitely not be held on 2 mg without a taper first. I honestly can't even give the OP a reasonable dosage to hold him since he's taking 40-50 mg a day. Hope you come back and let us know how your doing and that your safe (hopefully didn't go ct). You really need to be under medical supervision and I hope you went to get help tapering.

yea thats what im thinking. i get the same rx, 2mg bars 90 per month so 6mgs a day. and when i get them ill take like 10mgs and thats way plenty. taking 20 bars would almost wipe a third of your supply and would mean you take like 20 bars for only a few times which after day 3 would leave you with 30 bars and 27 days left for your refill. thats gota be a typo...

bc if not, i would seriously go to a dr. that is beyond life threatening despite benzos large safety margin, and then shit, if you added another cns depressant, youre on a one way trip to the MEs slab for an autopsy.

40-50mg alprazolam is way beyond a heroic dose. The only way to deal with that kind of use is to go to a doctor/hospital immediately. BL is of no use to you.

(though I'm not sure your 40-50 mg dose is accurate - you said you went through 60 2mg pills, which is only 120mg, so at most you could only do 40mg a day for 3 days max. you should clarify)
 
You don't simply cold turkey 40mg alprazolam. If you are worried about losing your script get some RC legal benzo and use that because they won't check for it.

I cannot stress this enough! YOU WILL HAVE A SEIZURE if you cold-turkey them. Explain to your doctor your problem - and have him give you some Valium or Klonopin to taper with.

What up JKtm? Been a while. I didn't know you had such an issue with benzos, I swear the last time we were speaking you had shit under control.

If you're taking 40mg you'll have a seizure.

Give up the pain prescription dude. Sort out the benzo problem first, you'll kill yourself if you add opiates ontop of that kinda dose, and that's coming from me - I was taking heroic doses of everything and thought I was invincible, nope, you'll OD.
 
Off topic a little. What are my chances of having a seizure if i go from .5mg clonazepam to nothing. Is that a low enough dose to be safe? Keep in mind i have only been on them for 4 months or so, and i usually don't dose more than 1.5mg on a good day.
