Opioids possibility of overdose on opiates when tolerant and not mixing or injecting?

I realize there is a certain amount of speculation on this topic, and modertaors, please dont look at this as "how high can I get without dying," I am really trying to get some good feedback from knowledgable and experienced people on this topic. I have read much of the overdose thread and many other threads as well, but they don't exactly address this matter.

I have heard many different views on this subject. One of my friends who is a long time oxy user said it would be very difficult or virtually impossible for someone with an opiate tolerance to experience a dangerous overdose on oxycodone or hydrocodone if there were no other drugs involved and if they werent injecting.

I realize the majority of overdoses are a result of mixing opiates plus benzos and alcohol, or from IV heroin. SO, what would it take for an experienced opiate user (lets just say oral hydrodocone and oxycodone and they are used to doses of >100mg/day) to have a dangerous overdose? I personally have never heard of anyone actually OD'ing on hydrocodone who is tolerant. Anyone else?

What are the real facts on this? I am talking only taking an opiate agonist for recreation by oral or maybe nasal admnistration. Is it pretty "safe" and "predictable" if you stay within your dose? How much is too much? What would happen in an OD?

thanks for your help and yes I am a new member so go easy on me.

This thread might be of interest to you.

I'll be honest with you. "Overdose" is a fuzzy term; it's subjective. It's not "impossible" to overdose off just an opiate if you are tolerant. it's just a lot harder than trying to O.D. a naive person.

If you take a user of e.g. oral oxycodone @ 100mg a day and you give them 1000mg of oxycodone, or 100mg of oxymorphone instead, it's a good bet that they'll drop off the face of this planet. Adding 10mg to a 100mg a day oxycodone habit won't do a lot though.

Another important consideration is place-based tolerance - if you e.g. consume oxycodone in the same setting every time you take it, and you take it in a new environment, the effect of the drug will be stronger.

Symptoms of overdose include: dizziness, nausea, hot and cold flashes, muscle stiffness, all sorts of gnarly shit.

How much is too much? nobody can tell you; you have to find your own limit. I think you're better off not even finding it at all...

thats true and I have been reducing my doses lately

to tell the truth I used to blow through oxy and norco like it was water -- i could easily handle 250+ mg/day but then I had a couple instances where I got really scared that I was going to OD -- even though I was pretty alert and awake.

One time I took 30 mg of hydro and 90 mg of oxy at the end of the day and after I swallowed the last 30 mg I was kind of like "oh fuck maybe I shouldnt have done that"

then I spent the next 3 hours in a sort of panic attack, pacing around and took a long walk outside.

Another time I took 160 mg of hydro CWE instead of my usual 120 mg and it hit me really hard when I wasnt expecting it. Again I was completely alert, breathing, etc, but I was just way higher than I expected to be and I kind of realized I had taken a large dose, so i got really scared again.

Ever since then I have been scared to take more than like 40 mg of hydro at a time and very little oxy.

I think my fears are the result of anxiety but I am wondering if there is any realness to my concerns, or am I just trippin for no reason??
