Being that Porishead isn't a strictly 'electronic' band. Seriously one of those bands 'on the line'... I thought we'd start a discussion about them. They're amazing. How do you feel about their latest album? Discuss!

Gotta love the Portishead... their albums are great of course, but some of the bootleg live recordings out there are what really shine, and while I've never had the privilege of seeing them I hear their live sets are always very impressive.

There's one in particular, an early one (Live @ Empress Ballroom, 1995) which is absolutely perfect. Y'all should find it you haven't heard it already!

love me some portishead!

their blend of trip-hop and electronic is strangely and incredibly arousing

Nice thread idea AR :) <3

<3 Portishead <3

Putingrad, I too haven't had the fortune of seeing them live but from the live recordings I've watched/heard, they really would be quite something else to see in concert *dreams*

I think they're amazing.

My favourite is the self titled. It's just sexy, and I think making sexy music is quite an achievement.

The other albums go in different directions and I respect that and I think they're good albums. I think Third is better than Dummy, and they're all good, but the self titled is the best.

didnt we already did this thread

..
anyway
those lines tattooed their way into my mind :

Oh, can't anybody see,
We've got a war to fight,
Never found our way,
Regardless of what they say.

dummy

i got to add the quality of the production,
back in the days i didnt have quality speaker-headphone but still,
the choice of sound vs the mood, the placement and tone...
there is some old jazz ala billie holiday mixed with the future

its depressing, numbing but so much silent joy can come out of it

I remember when I first got Dummy....... I think it was 95?? Oh man- I fell in love.
I still listen to them and still love them :) I can hear those songs over and over and never get tired of them.....

Though I didn't really car for what I heard of their new one....

Damn i first heard them way back in high school and never thought of them as electronic really. The first track i heard from them was sour times and that was along time ago. It was played alot on much music when much music played videos and was actually pretty good. Gasp 8o. Ive never bought a cd of theirs but i might have to have a look in the record stores and pick up one.

Funny i was just listening to wandering star when i stumbled onto this thread.

Oh Portishead, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi...

I haven't heard their latest yet though, must go get it once I get home from work.

Was introduced to them in college by some of my more musically diverse friends, and I still listen to them today. Some of my favorites are...

Mysterons
Numb
Only You (Live at Roseland NYC version)
Machine Gun

Their latest album is pretty alright, but not good enough to justify the time it took to make it! ;)
