InfiniteImpetus
Greenlighter
Before I launch into the details of my first experience with this drug, please indulge me in a brief aside:
I stumbled across this forum while simply trying to find out if the rumors I kept hearing about the innocuous and widely available poppy seed were true. I was immediately impressed with the wealth of information available here and by the general attitude of many of the posters. I found it refreshing to read the posts of individuals that approached drug use from the stand point of connoisseurs and not only to get "really fucked up." Bear in mind, however, that I also dig simply getting "really fucked up" sometimes myself. My point is that drug use can be almost anything you want it to be and it is gratifying to know that other people think so.
Digression completed, I have to say that I was stoked to find out that the poppy seeds commercially available in the U.S. are in fact the very same seeds that the big bad daddy of all drugs is born from. I read literally every word this forum had to offer on the subject and considered carefully everyones' individual insights on effect and tips on preparation before deciding that it was time for me to take the plunge.
I am well acquainted with opiate use, but almost exclusively in pill form. I have on two occasions snorted heroin, but never injected it (and never will). I enjoy the warm, rolling embrace of opiates and the sense of ease and peace that often comes with it. I understand clearly the inspirational quality of this buzz and why so many of our gifted artists were attracted to it. On a certain level it lets me feel a vague kinship with them. But then, most of you already know all of this.
I live in a very rural area in the back woods of the USA. My local grocery does not carry bulk poppy seeds. Infact, after scouring the entire county I was only able to procure a single 60g bottle. Luckily we are living in the information age and I was able to order a five pound sack of seeds right to my door. While waiting for the bulk seeds to arrive I did wash the 60g just to see if anything would be evident in the water after doing so. The water took on a very minor tan tinge. No odor was evident. I drank it. Not surprisingly, it tasted like poppy seeds. Also not surprisingly, nothing happened.
When the sack of seed arrived I was immediately impressed by their color and by the obvious inclusions on thier surfaces. The seeds I bought in a shaker at the grocery were almost perfectly uniform in color and very clean looking. My bul seeds were a fantastic combination of jet blacks, midnight blues and baby shit browns and all were quite noticeably covered with a latex like white powder. Some portions of the bag were even a bit clumpy due to the abundance of the substance.
I'm no rocket scientist, but I am pretty good at paying attention when people that sound like they know their shit are talking. The basics that I picked up from that habit are that opiates are alkaloids produced inside of the seed pods of papaver somniferum. Well, what little I know of chemistry tells me that alkaloids are salts (basically). That stuff looked nice and salty to me. I decided to move forward under the assumption that I had purchased one kick ass batch of seeds.
I made my "tea" via the quick cold water wash method. I poured one pound of seeds into a two liter bottle, added three fingers of ice cold water and shook vigorously for three minutes. I then loosened the cap by two turns and squeezed the water out into a large glass tumbler. I could see instantly that this wash was going to be good. The liquid was a dark and chalky yellow in color, nearly opaque but translucent at the edges. Upon close inspection I could see whitish flotsam curling like a dragon all along the surface such as you might see when your Alkaseltzer has finished bubbling. Guess what the "Alka" in Alkaseltzer comes from. Hehehe...
I drank about 8 oz of my incredibly bitter cup and waited to see what would happen. I settled in to watch an episode of Northern Exposure after making a note of the time. A mere 20 minutes later I noticed a very strong (and satisfactory) rush of well being. It was very similar to the feeling I get when I take three vicodin 750s and they kick in after a long abstinence. I savored the sensation for nearly 40 minutes and then decided to drink the rest of my wash.
The taste of this stuff was phenomenally rough. I'd have to compare it to chewing on a fistfull of asprin with a couple of 9V batteries thrown in for good measure. Truly revolting, but worth it in the end.
About 30 minutes after drinking the rest of my "tea" I realized that I was absolutely wrecked by it. I was somewhere along a half-nod but there was a huge grin on my face. For the first time in months I found myself completely relaxed and totally at peace. The bodily sensation was very strong. It felt almost electric. The effects lasted well over five hours and I am happy to report that I experienced no nausea. I did, however, experience a particularly thick hangover in the morning. I attributed this to the fact that I have had no drugs whatsoever in a very long time. Opiate hangovers aren't too rough on me anyway, so I can't complain.
On the whole, I am very pleased with the results of this little experiment and I will likely perform it again in the near future - possibly tonight.
