Poppy Seed Tea and weight gain, anyone else?

So i've been drinking poppy seed tea daily for about 5 months now and probably 9 out of the 10 last months. I've noticed that i've gained a noticeable amount of weight despite exercise, eating better and generally being healthier. No matter what, i can't get this weight to come off. The only thing that has changed is that i started poppy tea. Before this i had trouble keeping weight on and have been relatively skinny for 7 years or so. I feel bloated all the time. When i press on my stomach, it is not squishy or jiggly, it feels full of water or something.

So my questions are: has anyone else experienced this from poppy tea? or opiates in general? Is it water weight?

I've decided to switch to kratom instead of PST, i hate this bloated and constipated feeling it gives me and am just tired of it but I am really curious if it is indeed a likely or probable cause of my weight gain. I always thought opiate addicts were thin but i guess that could be because of lifestyle. I think it may be something particular to poppy seed tea, feels like all the water i'm drinking is just getting stuck.

thanks for any help

It might be due to constipation. If you lower your dose for a little while and 'clear out' you may notice the problems aren't that bad.

Chronic use of opiates will usually result in water retention; and obviously constipation. That bloated feeling you're describing is probably water (and poop) that's trapped inside your body due to the effect opiates tend to produce in the digestive system. Therefore, your weight gain may actually be attributed to fluids and feces accumulated inside of you. The small intestine is rather long.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm curious; how has the switch from PST to kratom affected you? More importantly; have you been experiencing any (opiate) withdrawal symptoms?

thanks for the answer. I've read that others feel similarly while on poppy tea, that bloated feeling is pretty common and could be exactly what you say. No wonder i feel like shit ;) lol

I haven't done the switch yet, it will happen monday or tuesday and i'm excited for it so i'm sure my mental state will help. I'm not really expecting withdrawals but at over 2lbs/day of potent PST it's definitely a possibility. I'll be sure to make a post about how it all works out.
