My mom planted about a dozen poppy plants in our garden and recently they shed their pink flowers revealing that indeed these are poppies (I wasn't aware beforehand). I was curious as to whether or not this was the opium poppy so I did a little bit of research and decided to make tea by blending 4 poppy pods and drinking the tea. I definitely felt an opium buzz and drinking water made the buzz more pleasurable.
Now, my questions are:
1) is this the opium poppy? (pink flowers, about 2ft long, whitish/greenish/yellowish (it's almost white) sap comes out after incision to the pod has been made with a razor blade - not a lot comes out, though, so I didn't use that method to collect the opium)
2) what else besides opium alkaloids do these poppy pods contain? Are any of them dangerous to my health? Can thebaine (a harmful ingredient, I presume) be removed?
3) what's the best way to prepare these poppy pods and how many pods (stems, too?) should I use for a stronger buzz?
Basically, how would you prepare this poppy pod tea for best results/lower risk? For instance, should I heat the blended poppy pods or not? Is blending the pods and straining the mixture enough and safe? And so on. Please feel free to share your experience/information.
Thanks, and take care!
