I admit it, I regularly abuse opiate drugs. I've done just about everything, but heroin and morphine were my drugs of choice (until I got a problem and then cut my contacts off). After February I was mostly doing tramadol and some occasional vicodin/percocet/codeine pills... but lately I was just dying for a morphine buzz. So, I decided to try some poppy pod tea, since it contains a fair amount of morphine in it.
First Night.
I ground up the powder in a coffee grinder and ate it whole, chasing it with water and grapefruit juice. I felt it after about five minutes, a warm glow spreading through my body. About an hour later, however, I decided that I wasn't fucked up enough, so I took another two pods. And after THAT, an hour later, I had two more. So, I had seven pods in all. I am a 90 pound girl with only a psychological tolerance, so this was a bit much.
What I realized is that pod tea takes a long time to reach full effects. My advice to anyone else would be to wait at least three hours before taking any more (or better yet, just do more pods another night... redosing doesn't really work if you're waiting that long). At first I felt the wonderful effects of morphine, codeine, and other alkaloids. I was warm, comfortable, chatty and sociable. My mind was fuzzy and relaxed. My friends and I talked and smoked cigarettes on the back porch, did some beading craftwork, played video games. About four hours after ingesting the first pods, I decided to take a bath. Unfortunately, that was about the time I started vomiting - no nausea, no warning, just instant vomit.
I puked for the rest of the night! When I puked on heroin back in December, it really wasn't too bad, but this was way nastier. I continued to vomit throughout the night, even waking up from my nice nod to run to the toilet. I had a hangover the next day that was almost as bad as alcohol. Yeah, I got really high, but I sure didn't enjoy it.
Second Night.
I made another brave attempt. This time I didn't ingest the pod powder - I had learned my lesson on that! Instead I ground up only two pods, mixed it with lemon juice (for extraction) and acidophilus (for easier digestion) and let it soak for an hour. Unfortunately I realized that I'd made too much water, so I had to pour it into two cups. Downing the tea wasn't horrible, but the texture was bad enough that I couldn't finish more than one cup. I had no nausea, but I didn't get very high either. I think my water temperature was too low, too.
Third Night.
The charm! Hooray! I took three pods and ground them up. I brought a pan of water - a much smaller amount than the last night - to simmering, and then dumped the pods in. I mixed in ginger powder (to combat nausea), acidophilus (to aid digestion), and cinnamon as well as a bag of rooibus tea. I let it soak for about thirty minutes (I was impatient) and then poured it into one cup. This time I strained it three times with a cheesecloth: pot to cup - cup to pot - pot to cup. I added sugar and a tiny bit of hot water, and this time found it just fine to drink.
I got a nice buzz going that night. No nausea, just warmth and pleasure. I'm not sure if I really get euphoria from opium anymore, but I get a comfortable and content feeling. My cat was curled up next to me and I kept marveling at how soft she was. During the movie I was watching I began nodding out a bit, feeling very sedated. However, when I got up at the end of the movie I found that I was wide awake again. I felt motivated to wash my face, brush my teeth, and generally take care of myself before getting into bed.
Had a great nod (for those that don't know, it's like a waking-dream state, like floating in stasis without a care in the world), not too heavy or light, woke up refreshed and without any hangover.
