Poppies in the neighbourhood

Yesterday I found out that there's a garden with several papaver somniferum plants like 100 meters away from my house. There were big red flowers and decent sized pods already. (how big should they be when ripe approximately?) I was thinking of cuting off all the pods as you might understand. I read you have to harvest them when the crown of the pod arises, is this correct? When will they be ripe?
like, in august or something? Do you people have any other advises?
btw, I hope the people who own the garden will not cut them before I do..

Well, if they're flowering you can get them now, it IS better to wait a few weeks but to be safe grab them sooner rather than later.
Pull the whole plant out (roots & all) & keep them in warm water before & while you bleed them.
Dont cut too deep.
 
And to think that all of this info comes form our beloved DEA. Haha...this is too funny.

Nah, they aren't mine. But yeah, that link is cool. I take back what I said about the government never doing anything for me- they taught me how to make heroin! :)
