poll: who believes in methadone and who doesnt?

Well it certainly helps some people. It destroys others. There's definately some politics involved with it. Finally it looks as if the US is starting to consider using buprenorphine, which is more effective and much less addictive, instead of methadone for opiate addiction.

At what dose? I've tried to find some recreational value in methadone countless times and finally gave up on it. It does absolutely nothing for me at all.

80mg? WTF.
Around here, you can get Methodone in 10mg pills and in 40mg pills. The 10mg are $5 each and the Methadose 40mg are $20, and they are LARGE, about the size of a quarter, and quite thick.
Anyway, with slight opiate tolerance (60mg dose of oxycodone to "nod") it took me 50mg of methadone to get FUCKED UP, i was probaly as high as 80mg of oxycodone would have got me, and methadone lasts for 8 hours....
I know LOADS of pillheads/junkies, and I have never seen anyone who didn't like methadone.

i used to love methadone ampoules 50mg/1ml wow - used to do 3 a day (wouldnt say no to one now). In the long term though it sucks, its very, very hard to get off. my withdrawal lasted months. As for your government Q its certainly a cheap way to maintain addicts. but here in the UK no clinics can decide on procedure so it varies all of the place in terms of how much u get. clinics rarely know what they are talking about and use draconian ways of punishing "naughty" addicts by cutting their script if they find other drugs in urine tests. certainly glad i am no longer on it.

I dont think it's a government conspirisy at all but I do beleive that it can be evil.
I'm for poeple going on the methadone programe if their lives are in ruins & it is their ONLY hope of getting off.
I've got so many friends on it & I only know of one that has (so far) successfuly mananged to stay off both dope & methadone. Many of my friends have become crazy pill taken zombies with falling out teeth, quite a few have gotten really fat too, these were good-looking, nice bodied people before & it's not like they eat candy all day, just seems to be a common side-effect.Then there's the constant sheen of sweat & grey pallor Mmm
Really I think methadone is a good choice for people that have gone through (or tried) some kind of rehab in the past & have failed & are really ready to make a lifestyle choice & have some hope inth efuture of getting off the stuff.
As for recreational use, I've had lots of it , IV & have never really enjoyed it, of all my friends, very few like it.

I recently kicked heroin. Then I started using methadone recreationally. I'm getting about as hooked on that as any other opiate I've been hooked on.
Infact, I'm actually starting to like it more than oxycodone or heroin. Because it last much longer. And precisely becaues it doesn't fuck me up. I can remain totally functional, act less weird than even on oxycodone, but generally feel good and my usual body aches are gone.
I'm not saying I wasn't totally expecting this to happen, but was certainly hoping to be able to manage things better.
At any rate, other than the fact that it's a pill and you get over the habit of shooting it, I really can't see where substituting one opiate addiction for another would really be helpful.
In the end, you HAVE to detox at some point. You HAVE to go through withdrawals.
Methadone is just keeping your physical dependancy going, prolonging the inevitable. And in the meantime, clinics typically recommend people be on methadone for 2 years, which undoubtedly will only make the withdrawals when you finally have to stop much much much worse.

i think its bad, but necessary at times, i agree its a last resort, because ive seen many good looking people become worse off methadone, ecspecially when trying to get off it

your right negro. it will help you get your life on track. see i could see a doc and get whatever i want. but i am going to run out at the end of each month. then be sick for a week if not longer. i cant afford to do that my whole life.
methadone has helped me bigtime. you have to plan on being on for at least a year though and detox very slow. thats why i fucked up and went out and did some coke the other night. i felt so bad cause i was doing so good. i found out i was on 45mgs instead of 55mgs. i freaked out.
1 to 2 mgs a week is all they recomend for detoxing. good luck. you'll like it and it will help you.. i fucked up the other night cause i tried going to fast at 5 mgs a week. thats way to quick.

so its easier blah to chase dow a dope dealer everyday before work hoping to score a bag and maybe not even getting one, rather than going to a clinic and knowing you'll be ok?
take your pic. its not easy to get in my town. plus heroin is much more money than methadone here in florida.

Where I'm from it comes in liquid form, If you're on a huge dose the all you have to do is cook it down. So alot of peopel (IMO people who really arent ready for methadone) DO shoot it & keep fucking up there veins, I think you get take-aways after 3 months, depends what city you're in though I guess, I dont mean America.

Well I've not used it, but from what my addict pals have told me they don't like it. Just as hard to come off as heroin, and not as nice so it still makes them want heroin. I don't see the point of it really. Nowadays here in the UK docs are starting to prescribe heroin to addicts. That is the way forward IMO.

What makes me re-think the methadone idea is the fact that my usage has been relatively short, about 1.5 years of drug abuse, and around 6 months of opiate abuse. The opiates consisted predominately of oxy and ms contin. Thus I am not a hardened addict, but the couple run in's with withdrawals have made me consider quiting all drugs except methadone, and decrease my dose with some degree of supervision. I really do enjoy opiates, but I see that its leading me no where. If I do begin taking it, I hope I don't try to inject it....
Also, does anyone know if a doctor (psychiatrist/ addictionologist) can privately detox someone by dispensing methadone?
