Poll: How many of you smoke cigarettes?

I have my own ecig, though its out of liquid and cartomizers. No thanks though, I puff on ecigs literally all fucking day and I dont want to do that.

True.. I do puff on mine all day, it's like mini-crack at this point. So while it won't kill me, I'm more of a nicotine addict than when I smoked analogs.

I became really addicted to cigs at the same time as percocet. Me and my new friends would nod out on some ill-acquired pills in this old trailer and chain smoke. I'm off the opiates now (unless you account for the occasional kratom order) and ready to quit. Cigs are great when nodding out on junk because you just don't care about cancer, or life for that matter. My new heavily active lifestyle just doesn't go well with compromised lung function. I've been smoking tons of weed though. Which I'm sure isn't great for your lungs. But not as bad as half a pack of modern commercial cigs...that I'm sure of.

I've got a piece of nicotine gum in my mouth and a bit of red wine. It's 5am now not sure whether to take sedatives and go back to bed or embrace the fact that I skipped my Seroquel and start getting fuckered up in the A.M. for a change. Quitting is fucking up my sleep for sure. Despite the fact that I spent the whole day baked yesterday.

Quit those fuckers some time over a week ago. ...but never went through withdrawals because I switched to gum. Should be nicotine free in less than 3mths if this gum works like it says it does.

About a pack a day, I try not to over do it as cigarettes sicken me nowadays.

I also have an e-cig but haven't used it in awhile. Might buy some more cartridges for it soon.

On meth, I usually stock up on a few packs for the day(s) and smoke like a chimney. I do the same when I'm drunk just not to the same extent.

I'm sorry grammar nazi i'm horrible i know

Actually, this is a matter of semantics rather than grammar, as "reward" and "award" are syntactically equivalent (both functioning as transitive verbs). :P

Quit 3 years ago. Used to smoke 1-2 packs a day, 2-4 packs when high on stims whole day.

Majority of friends who use drugs smoke.

been on them for serious since i was about 18, started fucking with them at 17 just for something to do and to piss my mother off more. but yeah 18 was the for realsies wtf did i do moment. needed them like oxygen since. shoulda known....i still suck my thumb at 25. i'm moving in w/a friend who has an e-cig soon so i might like, try that. either than that, i don't fucking know. i really don't know...oxygen/cigarettes. i am fucked

IMO cigarettes are the kind of thing where only cold turkey works.
Tapering seems to work for first few days/weeks, then you get drunk once and bam you're back.
E-cigs seem wonderful from the beginning but after few months they just annoy you and you don't even know why. It's because addiction to smoking is a complex addiction, it's not just about nicotine, it's about holding something in fingers, having something to do while waiting for bus, watching the smoke rise smoothly (which is where e-cigs fail and make you miss real cigs), having to put a piece of paper on fire, smelling that disgusting smell - which smells wonderful when you're addicted to cigs.
Nicotine patches or magic pills that make you quit cigs are complete joke, not even worth commentary.

One either is complete nonsmoker or a smoker. There's nothing in between longterm. You can be occasional cocaine user, mdma user etc. for many years but not partial cigarette user.

Lost count of my days since tobacco, which i guess is good in an addiction sense (like the compulsion and focusing on how long it's been), but I'm on gum now and need to keep track.

Also it says chew 9 pieces a day, but I've been doing like 4-5 I think which they say is bad?? I mean I get why, like to not deprive yourself of the nicotine until its time to withdraw from it, but it just kind of happens that way??

I know it's got to have been 2weeks+ since any smokes been in my lungs. Maybe 3? Gum is the only thing I've tried that's worked this effectively. And I've tried cold turkey, gum one time in the past(but it was a present from an ex and i only wanted to pretend to try to quit), and bought an ecig. Ecig sucks but I guess it's cool to own one. It's blu too so it's not like a lame knockoff I just never wanted.. Idk, I thought I would miss smoking, but no, not really... Not yet anyway. Just not worth it to pick one up again at this point, IMO. Almost become a habit not to smoke.

Finally strong enough to stand in someone's 2nd hand and not have to take a few steps away like a snob to keep from wanting one. So family and friends, smoke away!

^You're on good way but still not certain. When you'll have 3 months without a smoke and make it habit to *not smoke under any circumstances*, then you know you won.

I have to admit when I quit smoking, I was the typical Fresh Annoying Nonsmoker Who Hates All Smokers. But I overcame that in few months, now I tolerate smokers with no probs and know I'll never light a cig myself.

oh don't get me wrong i know if i ever become salvaged by e-cig and nic gum or sthng i'm a slave for life, there is no "transition" in my mind just a wife swap

Bob loblaw is a social smoker. Has been that way since I let him start bumming off me like 3-4 yrs ago.

People say the same thing about heroin. Oh you can't mantain casual use, well even when I could get heroin I never really loved it. Cigarettes though, man I was all over that shit.

And yeah I know I still have a long way to go with not smoking. As in the rest of my life, but thanks for the kind words!

^ No need to tell yourself you mustn't smoke the entire life, while it's true, it could scare you and make prone to give up. Just set reasonable, yet not too trivial target, like 1 or 2 months and one day you'll realize you haven't even THOUGHT about cigs for several days. Since that day abstaining forever will seem so self-evident.

Btw being a social heavy smoker may be more harmful than everyday mediocre smoker, as the body isn't used to all the toxins and is suddenly bombarded by 20 cigs on friday and 0 the rest of the week. Better to smoke 5 cigs every day than 20 on friday.

There's nothing in between longterm.

This is changing: as smoking in shared spaces is further restricted and as social stigma grows, 'social smoking' is becoming easier for people to maintain.
